Google announces Gemini Live – The next step in AI interaction

Gemini is Google’s Artificial Intelligence and one of the most advanced AIs out there with Google placing a significant focus of the new Pixel lineups and Android. Gemini Live is the company’s latest iteration that will reinvent the way we interact with Artificial Intelligence.

Gemini Live allows you to converse with Gemini without any breaks. You can interrupt Gemini at any time, you can change the course of the conversation. The constant communication also means that the replies will be customized to your conversation. Gemini Live allows you to pause or resume the conversation at any time. You can also communicate with Gemini Live even when your phone is locked, essentially a hands-free conversation.

Unfortunately, it does not have multimodal input just yet although Google says it will arrive later this year. Multimodal input, first announced by Google earlier this year at Google I/O, allows the phone to capture photos and videos of nearby surroundings to provide more context to its replies. 

Gemini Live is Google’s reply to ChatGPT’s Voice Mode.  ChatGPT launched its voice mode In the showcase, Google gave us a few examples of what to expect from Gemini Live. Gemini will also be able to draw context from all of Google’s services including YouTube, Docs, and more. It can draw context from a video, including getting a list of all food items shown in the video. This can be extremely useful for people when they just want to grab the answers they are looking for.

If you are searching for a list of places to visit in a new country and just want to grab that information, you can open a YouTube video of your favorite travel vlogger. You can then ask Gemini to list out all the places that the vlogger suggests. You can dive deeper to ensure you get more information about each of these places such as entry tickets, accessibility etc.
