Riot Games will retire Hyper Roll at the end of TFT Set 14. Here’s why.

On May 8, Teamfight Tactics (TFT) game director Peter Whalen shared an update about the remainder of the game's 2025 roadmap. Here's the latest TFT 2025 roadmap update, which includes turning off Hyper Roll, welcoming the return of Pengu's Party, and more.

"Hyper Roll hasn't hit our standards for engagement or timeless quality, making up around just 2% of total playtime across TFT."

TFT retires Hyper Roll

Riot Games is turning off Hyper Roll at the end of the current Cyber City set. According to Whalen, although the mode is fast-paced, it requires players to have a deep understanding of TFT, making it stressful for newcomers. Riot Games originally intended Hyper Roll to be a straightforward and shorter experience to help new players learn TFT without needing to master economy. However, since Hyper Roll hasn't met that goal, Riot Games is retiring it.

Whalen also shared that Hyper Roll accounts for just 2% of total TFT playtime. While this mode's removal may disappoint some fans, he's thankful to everyone who gave it a try.

"Reflecting on our past 10 sets of game mode exploration, we’re thankful for all the players who took the leap to explore TFT’s first-ever fledgling game mode. A mode that gave us learnings and the courage to innovate on the many more modes we’ve created since Hyper Roll’s launch," he said. "And we’re continuing to take Hyper Roll’s goals and learnings into more game modes in the future."

Speaking of more game modes, Whalen revealed the updated 2025 roadmap for TFT as well. He highlighted the upcoming return of Pengu's Party for the game's six-year anniversary alongside some new Anniversary traits from Inkborn Fables, Magic n' Mayhem, and Into the Arcane. He also mentioned a new TFT Set Revival. He didn't share any spoilers about it, however.

For the rest of 2025, players can look forward to an anime-themed TFT Set 15, a return to Runeterra in TFT Set 16, and the TFT Paris Open.
