“If you plan on attending TwitchCon in San Diego, make sure you are prepared with the proper proof, that way you are not turned down at the door.”

Early this month Twitch officially released tickets for TwitchCon in San Diego, while also revealing that that there would seemingly be no Covid restrictions. This meant that attendees would not be required to show proof of vaccination or wear a mask.

This announcement was met with quite a bit of backlash, as people asked for Twitch to do better. Multiple avid Twitch streamers made it apparent that they would not be attending due to the lack of restrictions.

As of today, Twitch has officially changed its policy, adding Covid restrictions to TwitchCon in San Diego.

Official covid restrictions for attending TwitchCon in San Diego

The basis of this announcement is that restrictions will be implemented within the large streamer conference. Twitch streamers and fans alike will have to abide by these rules if they are set on attending the event.

To attend TwitchCon in San Diego you must provide proof of vaccination or a negative covid test. Once indoors, all attendees will be required to wear masks throughout the conference.

This is seemingly a pretty easy rule to follow but has been met with quite a bit of backlash after its announcement. Large streamers like Nickmercs and Adinross expressed their disapproval via Twitter.

Nickmercs announced his own event that weekend in San Diego, which will rival the entirety of TwitchCon. "No mask requirements and no vaccine requirements at our events. Do you, and we’ll see ya there" said Nickmercs on Twitter.

Regardless if you agree or not, the rules are there now and have to be followed. Twitch is hoping to provide a safe and comfortable space for everyone, especially those who are immunocompromised.

What this means for future events?

Whether or not this decision will pave the way for future gaming conferences is undetermined. Twitch has chosen to take a safe route when it comes to TwitchCon atendees' health.
