Heading into Qualifier 6, three spots at the upcoming RLCS 2024 London Major were still up for grabs in North America. Multiple shocking upsets and a thrilling do-or-die tiebreaker match resulted in one of the most entertaining RLCS weekends of the season.
After the chaos of this season and the final open qualifier, it is safe to say that North America is sending its very best to London.
Qualifier 6 Swiss Stage surprises
With so few points separating them in the standings, the Swiss Stage eliminated several teams from London Major contention. With so few points separating them in the standings, there was simply no room for slip-ups.
Two RLCS main event regulars notably fell short of Qualifier 6's playoffs. Cloud 9, who took champions G2 Esports to Game 7 during the previous regional, struggled with teams ranked below them. M80, who have a reputation for dominant Swiss Stage performance, failed to meet expectations when it mattered the most.
Meanwhile, Shopify Rebellion took the 2nd spot with a 3-0 record, right behind G2 by game differential alone. This Qualifier 6 result shocked fans after the team's shaky performances throughout the RLCS season. Fortunately for them, it was exactly what they needed to keep their London Major and Worlds hopes alive.
Crowning Qualifier 6's champion
As the top RLCS team in North America, G2 Esports' Qualifier 6 victory is the only unsurprising outcome from the playoff bracket. Almost every other result was completely unexpected by viewers and talent analysts.
Quarterfinals
G2, Gen.G, and Spacestation's London Major spots were secured, and Dignitas and Moist Esports were already mathematically disqualified. Thus, the final spot was between OG, Luminosity, and Shopify Rebellion.
In the most shocking Qualifier 6 quarterfinal result, Moist handily took the win over RLCS Major-winner Gen.G. OG then took down Spacestation for the first time this split, and Shopify Rebellion defeated Copenhagen Major attendee Luminosity.
The fourth North American spot at the London Major was now between OG Esports and Shopify Rebellion. With a four-point deficit in the standings, Shopify would need to outplace OG to stay alive.

Semifinals and grand final
In a six-game series that was closer than expected, G2 Esports advanced to their seventh consecutive RLCS grand final. In stark contrast, Shopify earned their place in their first grand final of the season with a win over Moist.
G2 Esports then reaffirmed their position as the #1 RLCS team in North America, easily defeating Shopify Rebellion to emerge as Qualifier 6 champions. However, there was still more entertainment to come.

The conclusion of the Playoffs left four teams tied in the standings. Gen.G and Spacestation found themselves tied for 2nd/3rd with 36 points apiece. Their London Major seeding remains unknown "due to lack of disclosure from the rulebook," as worded by Liquipedia. Fortunately, caster Caleb "WavePunk" Simmons assures viewers that "nobody cares" because the action was continuing elsewhere.
An instant classic: OG Esports vs Shopify Rebellion
Two teams remained tied for 4th/5th after Qualifier 6, with both their London Major and RLCS World Championship spots on the line. OG Esports and Shopify Rebellion would duke it out in a single best-of-seven series following the grand final.
Content creators, talent, pro players, and fans alike now call the series that ensued one of the best spectacles of the year. In a nail-biting, high-octane, back-and-forth instant classic, OG Esports took emerged victorious in Game 7 overtime.
After a hard-fought split, North America can rest assured that the region will be well-represented on the international stage. Now, it's Europe's turn.
