Breaking the illusion of stability in Rocket League esports

The pro scene of Rocket League is extremely tough. Making it to the top here is an extraordinary achievement. For a pretty long time, it felt like only a few top teams battled against each other at big international events. This illusion of stability and even predictability was broken during the Group stage of the Rocket League World Championship 2025.

Not all of the tournament favorites advanced to the final bracket, and not all of them took an advantageous position.

Ninjas in Pyjamas eliminate Vitality

Team Vitality got eliminated after losing to Team Falcons and Ninjas in Pyjamas. The match versus Falcons was expectedly difficult — it was a rerun of their battle at the Rocket League Esports World Cup 2025, and Team Falcons won again.

As for Ninjas in Pyjamas, this loss is a big surprise. NiP made it to the World Championship from the European Last Chance Qualifier and the Play-In stage. Vitality has two players and a coach who won the World Finals in 2024. Seeing M0nkey M00n, zen, and ExoTiiK not making it to the Playoffs wasn’t on people’s bingo cards.

A wild roster of Wildcard

Wildcard consists of Australian players now. They qualified from the Oceania region, and they are clearly considered underdogs. To break this reputation, Wildcard defeated two pretty strong teams: FURIA, the best in South America, and Dignitas, who were in the grand final of the Raleigh Major.

A risky position for Karmine Corp

Karmine Corp is the people's favorite in their home ground. The Birmingham Major Champions and the winners of the Rocket League EWC 2025 had unexpected troubles, though. They lost to The Ultimates, which was a rerun of the grand final in Birmingham — but with a different result.

The team starts the final bracket in a dangerous position: one loss, and Karmine Corp is out.

Even if the success of NRG and Falcons was quite expected, the tournament still has a decent portion of chaos. It makes the RLCS 2025 World Championship Playoffs an even better esports show!

After the World Finals, pro teams enter the transfer window before the next season, RLCS 2026. For everyone in the community, the game has prepared Season 20, which starts on Sept. 16.
