Ubisoft confirms Six Invitational 2021; Brazilian teams in doubt

Six Invitational 2021 will take place in Paris, France says Ubisoft. Twenty teams have qualified but not every team might be able to travel to Paris for the event.

The Six Invitational 2021 will take place in Paris from May 11 to 23, 2021, Ubisoft has confirmed. The event will bring together the best Siege teams from across the globe. But there are a few travel-related complications for Brazilian teams.

Where will the Six Invitational take place?

The game developer has received permission from the local government to hold the event. However, there will be no on-site audience and the event has to follow safety protocols.  The Six Invitational 2021 playoffs will take place at the Palais Brongniart in France. Ubisoft hopes to bring all twenty teams together in Paris.

The Six Invitational traditionally takes place in Montreal every year. This year, Ubisoft moved the event to Paris, but its plans suffered a setback. The Parisian government announced travel restrictions for non-EU travelers. Ubisoft had to postpone the Six Invitational indefinitely due to health concerns and travel restrictions. After continued efforts to get the tournament going, the developer has now confirmed the event will take place in Paris from May 11. However, there are still a few problems for Brazilian teams.

Earlier this month, France suspended all flights to and from Brazil over rising cases of COVID-19. Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the decision after the spread of a new COVID variant (P1) in Brazil.

The Brazilian teams might likely be unable to attend the event. Existing travel restrictions between Brazil and France means the Brazilian players might be unable to travel to France.

These restrictions could play spoilsport at the event. Of the twenty qualified teams for the Six Invitational 2021, six are from Brazil. FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Team oNe Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, MIBR and FURIA esports all comprise Brazilian rosters.

Ubisoft is exploring all possible options to ensure the Brazilian teams can compete against others in the tournament. This could mean a possible exemption for the teams or online play. With nearly a third of the participant teams from Brazil, it will be interesting to see how the travel restrictions impact the Six Invitational 2021.

Ubisoft announces Six Invitational 2021 in Paris

Here are the details of Ubisoft’s post.

Since the delay of the Six Invitational earlier this year, our teams have been hard at work evaluating all possible options for the “May Edition” of the Six Invitational 2021, with the objective to have all 20 qualified teams compete.

On April 8th, we have been authorized by the government and the local authorities to hold the Six Invitational 2021 in Paris, France, from May 11th to 23rd, with no audience on-site and following strict sanitary measures. The Playoffs will be organized in the Palais Brongniart, a historical venue at the heart of Paris.

On April 13th, the French government announced that flights between Brazil and France were suspended until further notice. In light of this new development, we’ve been evaluating all possible options to ensure that FaZe Clan, MIBR, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid, Team oNe eSports and FURIA Esports, can compete in the Six Invitational against the teams from the other regions. While we still need a little more time to look into all options and their specifics, we thank you for your continuous support and patience.

Rainbow Six Siege recently broke 200,000 concurrent players and has seen significant increase in its player base over the past year.
