Ubisoft to take action against AFK abusers in Rainbow Six Siege

No more going AFK in Siege matches!

Ubisoft has announced it will take action against players abusing AFK methods in Rainbow Six Siege matches. The publisher has already manually sanctioned a few accounts and is in the process of making design changes. This includes automatic AFK detections and sanctions.

What is AFK Abuse in Rainbow Six Siege?

Rainbow Six Siege has seen a rise in the number of players going AFK (Away from Keyboard) in matches to complete challenges and earn in-game resources. These actions, however, spoil the experience for other players who just want to enjoy their favorite FPS title.

In a tweet earlier today, Ubisoft announced it is initiating sanctions against players found guilty of abusing AFK methods. The publisher also outlined certain measures that it is undertaking to ensure AFK abusers are history.

We are currently taking action against those we detect abusing this behavior, beginning today, with a wave of manual sanctions for those we’ve found to be abusing this. In the coming weeks, we’ll be evaluating design changes to alleviate the issue, as well as adding new automatic AFK detections and sanctions.

The video game company has already manually sanctioned accounts that used AFK methods recently. In addition, it is also working on design changes to alleviate the issue. Automatic AFK detections and sanctions will come to Rainbow Six Siege soon.

Why do Siege players abuse AFK methods?

Rainbow Six Siege players can earn Renowns in-game and some players have resorted to being AFK in matches to earn these resources. Players can earn Renowns if they finish simple challenges such as completing matches or other tasks in-game.

Renown is the in-game currency used to unlock all Operators as well as attachments and customization items. It is the in-game alternative to R6 Credits which is obtained with real-world money.

Players use bots to farm renowns in-game. These bots often use scripts to move every few seconds to avoid the default AFK detection systems. With Ubisoft taking a firm stance against AFK farming, Siege players can expect a significant improvement in the quality of their games.

Other FPS titles have also suffered due to the use of bots to cheat and abuse the matchmaking system. Bots are prevalent in Counter-Strike Global Offensive, although Valve has made significant progress in its Anti-Cheat in recent years. Automatic AFK detections will go a long way in ensuring players stop using such methods to spoil the gaming experience for others.
