Save Shadow Dialga from Giovanni in Pokémon GO during the next Team GO Rocket Takeover.

Shadow Dialga is the next Pokémon Trainers can save from Giovanni when the next Team Rocket Takeover event gets under way in the middle of May. The event, like always, introduces a handful of new Shadow Pokémon as well as allows you to get rid of Frustration from Shadow Pokémon's movesets.

You'll get a brand new Research quest, that will lead to a battle with Giovanni. This is how you will have the chance to capture Shadow Dialga, which looks set to be a very useful Pokémon.

Here is everything you need to know about the latest Team Rocket Takeover event in Pokémon GO.

Save Shadow Dialga from Giovanni

The highlight of any Team Rocket takeover event in Pokémon GO is the chance to encounter a new Shadow Legendary Pokémon by beating Giovanni. After the introduction of Shadow Palkia, we are now getting Shadow Dialga. This will be a great addition to your collection, with Dialga being a good Raid Attacker and also good for Master League PvP as well.

We are yet to get analysis on exactly how good Shadow Dialga will be but early indications look good. Stay tuned to esports.gg for full analysis on Shadow Dialga before the event gets under way.

Pokémon GO Team GO Rocket Takeover May 2025

The latest Team GO Rocket Takeover will run from Wednesday, May 14, at 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. local time. They will be taking over the previously announced Crown Clash event.

Event Bonuses:

The following bonuses will be active during the event.

  • Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
  • Pokémon caught via one-star and three-star Shadow Raids during the event will have a wider variance of Attack, Defense, and HP.

Make sure to take advantage of the chance to get rid of Frustration.

New Shadow Pokémon join the game

Like always with takeover events, Sierra, Cliff, Arlo and Team GO Rocket Grunts will be getting new Shadow Pokémon in their lineups. In addition, there are a few new Pokémon that can now be caught in the Shadow form. Defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts to encounter these:

  • Shadow Slakoth
  • Shadow Inkay
  • Shadow Tyrunt
  • Shadow Amaura

We will have to wait and see what the new featured Pokémon are for the Rocket Leaders. As always, esports.gg has you covered with everything you need to know to win these battles.

Shadow Raid rotation

There are also Shadow Pokémon featured in One and Three-Star Raids across the event. There are some exciting options so make sure to keep an eye out for these. The rotation is as follows:

One-Star Raids

  • Shadow Magnemite
  • Shadow Cyndaquil
  • Shadow Murkrow
  • Shadow Spoink

Three-Star Raids

  • Shadow Lapras
  • Shadow Piloswine
  • Shadow Gurdurr

Shadow Gurdurr and Shadow Piloswine are absolutely worth doing. Shadow Mamoswine and Shadow Conkeldurr are excellent attackers for Raids.

Team GO Rocket event also changing 12 km Egg rotation

There is also a welcome adjustment to the 12 km Egg Pool. Trainers have long asked for Larvitar and Pawniard to not be in this Egg pool, after they have been avaliable through other methods so many times. From the start of this event, they are both officially moving from 12 km Eggs to 10 km Eggs.

Other event details

As always, the event will feature special Field Research tasks that award Fast TMs, Charged TMs and Mysterious Components. There is also a special $4.99 Paid Timed Research. Amongst the rewards will be a Super Rocket Radar, Two Premium Battle Passes and encounters with Nidoqueen and Nidoking wearing a crown.

If that wasn't enough, there is also event-themed PokéStop Showcases and a special Crown Clash Ultra Ticket box avaliable in the Web Store.
