July 2025’s Pokémon Presents revealed some new information about the characters that players will encounter in Legends Z-A, as well as Dragonite’s new Mega Evolved form.

Pokémon Legends Z-A continues to build hype following its official confirmation during the Pokémon Presents livestream, where Mega Dragonite was revealed to make its debut alongside new characters set to bring Lumiose City to life.

As shown in the scene where the player character is fighting a Rogue Mega Tyranitar, Pokémon Presents introduced Mega Dragonite as a newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon. Dragonite’s transition from its regular to Mega Evolved form involved having a set of large wings on its head, as well as a pearl-like orb near the tip of its tail.

Mega Dragonite’s design immediately became the topic of conversations across social media, gaining mixed reactions among the fans.

Some X users pointed out that Mega Dragonite kind of reminded them of Patamon from Digimon, while others believed that adding wings to Dragonite’s head isn’t a good idea.

Mega Dragonite still received some positive comments from other fans, citing that the design quickly grew on them and its features bridged the design gap between Dragonair and its previous form, Dragonite.

More characters join the Lumiose gang

In addition to AZ and his Floette, Jett, and Vinnie, it’s been revealed that Pokémon Legends Z-A’s story will also revolve around Team MZ, a crew sworn to protect Lumiose City from all kinds of threats.

Some of Team MZ’s members include the following:

  • Urbain/Taunie
  • Naveen
  • Lida

The Pokémon Presents livestream also gave a sneak peek at other characters that might potentially be the game’s bad guys, judging by their designs alone. The Rust Syndicate, an organization in Lumiose City, is led by a guy named Corbeau, who will become one of the toughest trainers to beat in Z-A Royale, a Pokémon battle competition that only happens at night.

And lastly, the last two characters that will join the fray already made their respective appearances in Pokémon X and Y. Turns out Emma continued her career as a detective in Pokémon Legends Z-A, giving the player some missions to complete. There’s also Mable, a former Team Flare scientist that somehow got away from her troubled past and became the acting director of Lumiose’s Pokémon Research Lab.

Pokémon Legends Z-A will hit your local game stores on Oct. 16. For more updates and information about this upcoming Pokémon Legends game, stay tuned to esports.gg.
