Mega Lucario Z enters the fray of new Mega Evolution forms in the Pokémon franchise.
With only a week left before the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC, players are getting a surprise reveal in the form of Mega Lucario Z, a new Mega Evolution for the Aura Pokémon.
Although it’s rare for a Pokémon to have multiple Mega forms these days, this marks the first time a species with an existing Mega Evolution is receiving an alternate form. The new form bears the official name Mega Lucario Z, breaking from the usual Mega X and Mega Y naming convention seen in Pokémon such as Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pikachu.
The Mega Dimension DLC will release on December 10, 2025, and Mega Lucario Z will join the newest batch of Mega Evolution Pokémon. Players can already purchase the DLC on the Nintendo eShop.
Mega Lucario Z stats and type: Will the new form change in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

While the latest trailer for Mega Lucario Z didn’t mention anything about its type, online databases revealed that this new Mega Pokémon will retain its base form’s typing, which is Fighting/Steel. It’s also shown to be capable of performing Lucario’s signature move, Aura Sphere, alongside Protect.
However, its appearance alone hints at a shift toward a more special-oriented role, so Mega Lucario Z will almost certainly feature a stat spread that differs from the original Mega Lucario.
Fans are also curious about what Mega Lucario Z’s Shiny form will look like, which will likely boost interest among Legends: Z-A players who plan to Shiny hunt the Riolu found in the building north of Quarsartico Inc.
Mega Lucario Z: Best uses, power breakdown, and trivia
Based on its typing, Mega Lucario Z should perform well in the same advantageous matchups as the original Mega Lucario. The Steel type provides valuable resistances, and the Fighting type keeps it flexible and effective in a wide range of battles.
It’s not clear yet whether Mega Lucario Z will function as a Special attacker, but it will certainly become one of the strongest and fastest Fighting types, capable of countering Fairy types like Xerneas.
It’s also worth mentioning that in Pokémon lore, the first Pokémon to mega evolve was a Lucario, after an unnamed Trainer and its Lucario allegedly found the first Mega and Key Stones at the Tower of Mastery in the Kalos region’s Shalour City.
In Pokémon Legends Z-A, the Lumiose Museum displays a replica of the Mega Lucario statue from the Tower of Mastery on its first floor, with text noting that this Pokémon was the first to Mega Evolve in Kalos.
