This new item has been spotted in the game files after a recent update.
Pokémon GO data miners have been tracking a brand new item codenamed the "Lucky Friend Applicator" for a few months. Now, we officially have a name for the new item. The latest Pokémon GO update renamed the item to "Lucky Trinket" and also added some extra details about how the item will work.
This item could be one of the most exciting things added to Pokémon GO for some time. We don't yet know a great deal about the Lucky Trinket, but here is everything that we do know so far. Don't forget that things are always subject to change, and all of this information comes via dataminers so is unofficial.
How will the Lucky Trinket work in Pokémon GO?
The Lucky Trinket is described as "A keepsake that strengthens bonds, allowing you to instantly become Lucky Friends with someone if you’re Great Friends or higher."
So, it seems that the Lucky Trinket will let you force Lucky Friend status with someone on your Friends List. Lucky Friends is a much sought after bonus in the game. It guarantees that your Pokémon traded will have a 12/12/12 IV floor and be lucky. That will make it much cheaper to power up.
At the moment you have to reach Best Friends, and then get lucky by interacting to get to Lucky Friends. There is a 1.1% chance, which means you can go years sometimes before becoming Lucky Friends with someone.
Once the Lucky Trinket is added to Pokémon GO, you will be able to trigger this status manually. That means if you have a trade lined up, perhaps for a shiny Origin Forme Palkia with Spacial Rend, you don't have to wait to swap that with your friend.

How can you get the Lucky Trinket?
At the moment, it is not clear how you will be able to get the Lucky Trinket. There are three possible options.
- You can purchase it from the item store.
- Awarded as part of a global event quest, perhaps during the Unova Tour.
From recent history, it seems most likely that it will be avaliable through Research like the Master Ball. If Lucky Trinkets were unlimited (for example being purchased through the item store), that would hugely devalue the Lucky Trade system.
However, it is also noted that the item will have a usage time before it expires and disappears from your bag. This is like Safari Balls from the Wild Area. That is unlike the Master Ball, and perhaps points to it being a one time global item.
For now, we don't know how it will be added to the game or when. Stay tuned to esports.gg for the latest esports news and more Pokémon GO updates.
