Prepare your team for the Fossil Cup

The Fossil Cup is back in Pokémon GO PvP until August 16. The Fossil Cup operates as the Great League (1500 max CP) with a range of additional restrictions. That means that your usual Great League team might not apply.

The Pokémon GO Fossil Cup only allows Warer, Rock and Steel-type Pokémon. All members of your team must have at least one of these types.

So, what are some of the best Pokémon you can use to rack up victories in the Pokémon GO Fossil Cup?

What is the best team for the Pokémon GO Fossil Cup?

It’s hard to always say there is a one size fits all best team for any single Pokémon GO PvP Cup or League. After all, Pokémon GO PvP is all about counters, specific movesets and thinking outside the box to get one up on your opponent. So bear that in mind.

However, statistically the best team for the Pokémon GO Fossil Cup is Poliwrath, Registeel and Ferrothorn.

This team gives you a good range of type coverage, with these Pokémon having a range of moves in a range of categories. Additionally, none of these Pokémon need XL candy in order to reach the top end of the 1500 CP limit.

Pokémon GO Fossil Cup: Solid Pokémon to use

If you want to try something a bit different, here are some of the other Pokémon that can fare very well in the Fossil Cup:

KartanaRazor Leaf, Leaf Blade, Night Slash
Quagsire (Shadow)Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, Stone Edge
LudicoloRazor Leaf, Ice Beam, Leaf Storm
LanturnSpark, Surf, Thunderbolt
JellicentHex, Surf, Shadow Ball
Registeel (Shadow)Lock On, Focus Blast, Zap Cannon
Swampert (Shadow)Mud Shot, Hydro Cannon, Earthquake
EscavalierCounter, Drill Run, Aerial Ace
SwampertMud Shot, Hydro Cannon, Earthquake
LucarioForce Palm, Thunder Punch, Shadow Ball
PelipperWing Attack, Weather Ball (Water), Hurricane
GastrodonMud Slap, Body Slam, Earth Power
QuagsireMud Shot, Mud Bomb, Stone Edge
Whiscash (Shadow)Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, Scald
MagnezoneVolt Switch, Wild Charge, Mirror Shot

For Kartana, which is a fantastic Pokémon to use in this PvP Cup, you will only be able to find one below 1500 CP if you trade the Kartana you got either of the two times Kartana was avaliable through Research, and get IVs lower than 10/10/10.

Be warned that while several Shadow Pokémon are all very useful in the Fossil Cup, Shadow Pokémon are more expensive to power up, and much harder to get optimised IV values for. For a temporary PvP Cup, it might not be worth the investment.

However, using any of those Pokémon will stand you in good stead for your battles in the Fossil Cup. Good luck out there Trainers!
