Pokémon just announced new LEGO sets ahead of its 30th anniversary. Could this mean a Kanto remake is in the works?

2026 has begun and Pokémon has started its rollout of 30th anniversary content, featuring a LEGO collaboration. While today’s announcement may not be anything to do with the games, it still hints at a future remake, while giving collectors a great way to display the Kanto starters.

Pokémon announces LEGO collaboration, featuring Kanto starters

Everyone loves a good LEGO collaboration. During quarter four of 2025, Nintendo announced a Zelda LEGO set for the game’s 40th anniversary, which also is in 2026. The set, which is based around Ocarina of Time, has pushed the belief that Nintendo is planning an Ocarina of Time remake for this year (or next).

So, does the Pokémon LEGO collaboration mean anything for this year’s 30th anniversary? Well, the franchise is planning on releasing three LEGO sets based around Kanto. Here are all the Pokémon LEGO sets releasing in 2026, including the price:

  • Pikachu & Poké Ball ($199.99)
  • Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise ($649.99)
  • Eevee ($59.99)

Each set is based around Pokémon from the original 150, including Eevee, Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Each one of these Pokémon are considered historical within the Pokémon community, but does that mean it hints at a remake?

Are we looking at a Kanto remake in 2026?

While many want a Kanto remake, and it would seem that maybe this LEGO set is hinting at a remake in the original Pokémon region, it would be highly unlikely. Why, though?

Well, first off, Pokémon released a Kanto remake less than 10 years ago with Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu. However, we could easily still see a remake hit this year for Black and White, as those are technically the next games to be remade. Also, our last big remake was back in 2022 for Diamond and Pearl.

The chances of getting a Kanto remake are low, and this LEGO collaboration is more than likely just being released for the nostalgic factor, but hey, anything could happen.
