Pokémon has officially announced the ports for FireRed and LeafGreen. The two games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sooner than you think.
It is a great day to be a Pokémon fan. Whether you have been here from the beginning or even just a new fan, Pokémon has been a safe haven for everyone. And today, the popular franchise has announced the Nintendo Switch ports of two of its most famous games, FireRed and LeafGreen.
Here is everything we know.
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen ports announced for Nintendo Switch
Pokémon‘s first games, Blue and Red (and Green if you were in Japan), released back in 1996. Then, eight years later, the company remade those games. Those remakes were FireRed and LeafGreen. These historical remakes went down in history as some of the best Pokémon games ever developed.
And now, you will be able to play them on your Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon is a franchise for everyone. Whether you are strictly into the games, or the cards, or even just the anime, the Pokémon Company shows no boundaries.
And now, with FireRed and LeafGreen coming to the Switch, we will see quite a few veterans make their way back to the world of Pokémon.
In a recent Twitter post, the company announced the ports, declaring their release for right after the Pokémon Day presentation, which takes places 9 a.m. EST on February 27, 2026. The games will be released on the Nintendo eShop and will be download exclusive.
But are they Switch 2 exclusives?
Are the games Switch 2 exclusives?
With Pokémon Pokopia being a Switch 2 exclusive, many are worried that the same will happen with these FireRed and LeafGreen ports. Well, Pokémon fans, fear not. Both of these ports will be available for the regular Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, meaning anyone can play them.

They are classic sprite games, so it does not take a lot of hardware to support them.
Pokémon also announced that players will be able to link up with others to trade and battle, meaning we are about to get the full FireRed and LeafGreen experience.
Price
Right now, no price for the LeafGreen and FireRed ports has been announced. However, a leak on Twitter suggested that in Japan they would be 2,000 yen, which translates to roughly $13 USD.

I think it would be safe to expect the games to cost anywhere from $10 USD to $15 USD on the Nintendo eShop.
How excited are you for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch?
