Take on Mega Houndoom with our Pokémon GO Raid Guide.

Mega Houndoom is back in Pokémon GO Mega Raids until September 26. This Dark and Fire-type Mega Pokémon is the third best Dark-type Raid Attacker in the game and is absolutely worth raiding for. Mega Pokémon with two typing’s are especially useful if you can get them to Mega Level 3.

Don’t forget that if you have a good IV Houdoom already, the Mega Energy you will get from these Raids can be used on any Houndoom.

So, here’s everything that you need to know before you take on Mega Houndoom in Pokémon GO.

Best Mega Houndoom counters in Pokémon GO:

Mega Houndoom has a weakness to Fighting, Ground, Rock and Water-type attacks. It has a double resistance to Psychic-type attacks. Then it also has resistances to Dark, Fire, Ghost, Grass, Ice and Steel-type attacks.

Here are the best Mega Houndoom counters in Pokémon GO:

After the recent Pokémon GO PvE changes, the best Pokémon for Raids has shifted a bit. Some Fighting-type Pokémon like Conkeldurr are no longer among the strongest choices for Raids.

Thankfully, to take on Mega Houndoom in Pokémon GO you’ll want both Groudon and Kyogre. These two Pokémon have been in Raids during September 2024, so if you don’t have any good Mega Houndoom counters then get out and do some Groudon raids.

Additionally, Mega Tyranitar is a fantastic choice for this Raid with optimised moves. This Pokémon will give you additional Candy and XP when you catch Houndoom.

Can Houndoom be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, Houndoom can be shiny in Pokémon GO.

Mega Evolutions to get you more Houndoom candy in Pokémon GO

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Dark and Fire-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

Here are the Pokémon you can Mega Evolve to get more Houndoom candy:

  • Houndoom
  • Blaziken
  • Groudon
  • Absol
  • Tyranitar
  • Gyarados

We suggest Mega Tyranitar for this Raid for the reasons stated above.

How many trainers do I need to beat Mega Houndoom in Pokémon GO?

Mega Houndoom isn’t too challenging to take on in Pokémon GO. You should be able to take on this Mega Raid with just two Trainers.

However, you get more Mega Energy the faster you beat a Mega Raid. So, if you want to be safe and get more Mega Energy aim for a group of at least five trainers. This will also apply to lower level Trainers.
