Looking to trade Pokémon in the Legends game? Here is a short guide on how to trade in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

First there was nothing, then... There was Pokémon. Alongside the release of the original Pokémon games was trading. The feature is as old as the first game and allows players to trade Pokémon between friends. And now, with Pokémon Legends: Z-A here, there is a new way to trade.

Here is a guide on how to trade Pokémon with friends in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Trading in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Trading Pokémon has evolved quite a bit over time (just like your favorite starter Pokémon). At the start, players had to have specific cables to connect their Game Boys together. Then, towards the end of the SP's life cycle, Nintendo released a Wireless Adapter that let players connect to one another wirelessly.

The only problem with the Wireless Adapter is that both people had to have one. The wired connector only required one player to have one.

Then eventually, the games developed wireless connectivity through proximity or wi-fi. This all began with Gen 4 (Diamond and Pearl) and the release of the Nintendo DS.

Now, Pokémon's trading system is incredibly easy to navigate.

How to trade in the new game

So, how do people trade in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? It is simple. First, you need to unlock Link Play, which can be unlocked by completing early game missions and receiving Mable's research. Once you have Link Play, you will be able to trade with friends, whether they are in the same room as you or on the other side of the world.

First, press X on your Switch to open up Link Play. Then, you and your friend need to share with each other the code given to you through the game. Once you have entered your friend's code into your Switch, you will be given the option to trade with them. It is as simple as that.

Can the Switch trade with the Switch 2

Yes! The original Nintendo Switch can trade with the people who are playing Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the Switch 2.

So, why should people trade? Well, it is an easy way to complete the Pokédex if you do not want to have to search for every Pokémon in the wild. Also, some Pokémon cannot evolve until traded, so there is that reason, too.
