Get ready for these two new powerful Pokémon coming during GO Fest.
Niantic have released more details about the release of Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta at this summers Pokémon GO Fest events. These two special forms are debuting first at the three in-person GO Fest events and then across the world for Pokémon GO Fest: Global.
These forms will be treated like Mega Evolutions in the game. This means that your existing Zacian and Zamazenta will also be able to benefit from the release of his new feature. We also now know that these Pokémon will have special moves and be able to join Max Battles.
Here's everything you need to know about the introduction of Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta into Pokémon GO.
You will use Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield energy to unlock the new forms
The most important information released today is that to access Crowned Sword Zacian or Crowned Shield Zamazenta you will need special energy. This seems to be a mix between Mega Energy and Fusion Energy that we have seen in the past.
You'll be able to get Energy the same way as for Necrozma or Kyurem. Initially through branching Special Research, then through Zacian and Zamazenta Raids during GO Fest Global.
Once you have have enough of the required energy (1000) you need to make sure either Zacian or Zamazenta knows the charged attack Iron Head. With that, you can transform it into the new form.
Excitingly, and in a key change from fusions, once a Trainer changes their Zacian or Zamazenta’s form once, they can change that Zacian or Zamazenta form as many times as they like without using energy.

Featured Attacks
When Zacian and Zamazenta are transformed, they will get their unique Charged Attacks. This is Behemoth Blade for Zacian and Behemoth Bash for Zamazenta. These are Steel-type Charged Attacks.
These moves are very powerful and will be really strong in Pokémon GO.
GO Fest means Zacian and Zamazenta can join Max Battles
In addition to all of that Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta will have an exclusive ability to join Max Battles. This is despite them not being able to Dynamax or Gigantamax.
Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta will be able to level up Behemoth Blade and Behemoth Bash to do more damage in Max Battles, which is just like other Max Attacks.
In addition, they will also be able to unlock and level up Guard and Spirit moves to use in Max Battles as well.
These are great options to use in Max Battles and will be worthwhile additions to your Pokémon GO collections. Notably, these will be the best options we have for Battles that also have raid relevance too.
