In a recent chat with Jay3, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller touched on future updates, the rivalry with Marvel Rivals, Wuyang, and more.

Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller recently shared hints about upcoming content during a conversation with streamer Jay3. He also teased fans with “hidden surprises” related to Wuyang, the game’s next support hero, set to be revealed at ChinaJoy 2025, which kicks off on August 1.

Overwatch 2 x Marvel Rivals

During the conversation between Aaron Keller and American streamer Christopher "Jay3" Pavloff, one of the key topics was the growing rivalry between Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals.

Keller emphasized that the upcoming updates are "not a response to Marvel Rivals," noting that many of the new features, such as the Stadium, perks system, game bans, and other major additions, have been in development for over a year. While he acknowledged that competition "can be healthy," he made it clear that these updates reflect long-term planning rather than a reaction.

Lore and animated shorts

Keller revealed the team will come back to the Overwatch 2 lore. After the cancellation of "big plans" for the PvE set to drop this year, the team had to "reset" and “take a step backward in order to move forward again.” The same goal is to come back with the animated short stories that Keller believes are very important for the game.

Future updates and Wuyang in Overwatch 2

Regarding some updates, Keller talked about the Looking For Group (LFG) feature and its possible return after some community interest arose. As for Season 18, Keller said the season will be "big" and that things are going to "ramp up," highlighting solid progress on "innovative gameplay systems" and broader plans for the game and its universe in the coming year.

For those who are excited for Wuyang's release, the game director announced some "hidden surprises" at the ChinaJoy 2025 event, starting on August 1. We might see a reveal trailer or even a trial of the new Chinese support hero. We are very excited to see more of Wuyang, scheduled to release in Overwatch 2 Season 18.
