Overwatch 2 esports fans will reunite in North America next year.

Blizzard Entertainment just announced that BlizzCon 2026 will feature the Overwatch World Cup!

Overwatch World Cup 2026

On Nov. 5, Blizzard Entertainment revealed that Overwatch World Cup 2026 will happen at BlizzCon 2026. This event, slated to happen between Sept. 12 and 13, will take place in Anaheim, California.

At the time of publishing this article, not much is known about the tournament apart from it happening at next year's BlizzCon. However, the game's official account on X asked folks to stay tuned for more information.

In addition to this Overwatch 2 tournament, BlizzCon 2026 attendees will also get to witness various esports teams and players duke it out in World of Warcraft's Mythic Dungeon International (WoW MDI) and Arena World Championship (WoW AWC), the Hearthstone Masters Tour World Championship, plus the first-ever Blizzard Classic Cup featuring Warcraft, StarCraft, and Heroes of the Storm.

Overwatch esports history

The last Overwatch World Cup was held in 2023 in the United States. That same year, the Overwatch League (OWL) Grand Finals took place in Canada. This was followed by the inaugural Overwatch Champion Series (OWCS) World Finals in 2024 in Sweden.

Another recent major event was the OWCS 2025 Midseason Championship, which took place at the Esports World Cup (EWC) in Saudi Arabia. The year 2025 saw the OWCS Champions Clash 2025 happen in China as well.

With Overwatch World Cup 2026 set to take place at BlizzCon 2026, it will bring esports fans together once again in North America.

OWCS, OWL, and Overwatch 2 esports

In early 2024, Blizzard Entertainment and ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) announced the OWCS circuit as the OWL's successor. This multi-year partnership led to OWCS events throughout its inaugural year and into 2025.

As noted, the first-ever OWCS World Finals took place at DreamHack Stockholm in 2024. The 2025 OWCS World Finals will also return to the same venue later this month. Therefore, while Overwatch World Cup 2026 is still nearly a year away, there's plenty of esports action to enjoy in the meantime.
