It's off to the races in this new Overwatch 2 Stadium game mode.

A game mode within a game mode? That’s correct, according to the latest Overwatch 2 director’s take. The post just revealed that Overwatch 2 Stadium will later see the arrival of the Payload Race game mode. Here’s everything we know about it so far.

Overwatch 2 Stadium Payload Race

In Overwatch 2 Stadium, Payload Race will be a new game mode launching alongside two new maps. Outside of the director’s take, senior game designer Dylan Snyder revealed that teams will have to escort payloads toward their destination while duking it out in winding pathways and evolving environments. He added that everything will lead up to an all-out brawl.

“In Payload Race, teams escort their payloads toward their destination, battling each other along winding pathways and evolving environments,” Snyder said. “This culminates in an exciting all-out brawl at the finish line, as the leading team attempts to close out their victory, and the trailing team does whatever they can to stop them!”

Overwatch 2 Stadium quests

The post also revealed that Overwatch 2 Stadium will get a new quest mechanic. At the start of each match, players will have to choose from a random set of quests that will grant rewards upon the completion of objectives.

It should be noted that the final name of this mechanic is still unknown, but it’s internally referred to by Blizzard employees as “quests.”

In terms of other reveals, the director’s take confirmed a bunch of upcoming Overwatch 2 Stadium heroes, the arrival of endorsements in Season 18, the ability to save and share builds, new All-Star rewards, a draft mode feature, item system upgrades, consumables, and more.
