The Overwatch 2 Season 9: Champions trailer released and with it came a ton of new information about the new season. The Overwatch community is more hyped than ever for all of the new content arriving on Feb. 13 — from new skins to new gameplay and even a reworked ranked system. So without further ado, let's break down the Season 9 trailer.
Overwatch 2 Season 9 ranked rework
The first thing right out the gate with the Overwatch Season 9: Champions trailer is the rework of competitive mode. The rework of ranked gameplay is something Overwatch 2 players have been asking for a while. The new season attempts to provide a more accurate rank by adjusting the various modifiers used in determining ranked progress such as win streaks, uphill battles, volatility, and more.
In the same vein of rank accuracy, starting in Season 9, you'll be able to see your ranked progression after each match. Especially since there will be full transparency with the impact of the modifiers and how much they influence the match. Additionally, there will be a brand-new ranked tier called Champion rank. This new rank is placed above the Grandmaster rank and below Top 500.
The next new feature coming to Season 9 of Overwatch 2 will be the new jade weapons. These new cosmetic weapons will be purchasable with 3,000 competitive points. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use your pre-existing competitive points, as in the new season, your pre-existing ranked points will be turned into legacy currency.
