Overwatch 2 Season 16 mid-season patch notes and release date

Overwatch Season 16 kicked off with the arrival of Freja as the newest damage hero, the new Stadium game mode, and Juno's adorable mythic skin. The season then continued with balance changes in Stadium, featured DokiWatch and Gundam Wing skins galore, and even announced the Overwatch 2 x Street Fighter 6 collaboration during Evo Japan 2025! We're now close to the mid-season. Read on for everything to know about the Overwatch 2 Season 16 mid-season patch notes and release date.

The Overwatch 2 mid-season update is expected to arrive on May 20 at 11 a.m. PT. This is because when we enter the game and visit our Season 16 Battle Pass, the timer there suggests that May 20 is the middle of the season. Additionally, Overwatch 2 seasons typically go on for about two months and from our own experience, patches usually happen on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. PT.

After signing in to our Battle.net account and selecting Overwatch 2, we can see some green text under the "Play" button that reads, "Pre-release content downloaded." This is because we have automatic updates toggled on. This further implies that mid-season patch is set to arrive soon as well.

In terms of the mid-season patch notes, we know that Freja is going to enter the Stadium game mode on May 20. As for the Overwatch Classic game mode, it features the October update from a few years ago. The Overwatch 2 x Street Fighter 6 collaboration is also on the horizon alongside a new mythic weapon skin. This time, it's the Merciful Magitech mythic weapon skin for Mercy. This weapon skin is part of the DokiWatch universe.
