The Overwatch 2 Defense Matrix features plans to improve upon the reporting system. It also includes improvements to preventing disruptive chat.

The updates from Overwatch 2's Defensive Matrix announcement continue! Included in the update are upgrades to deal with toxic behavior. In Season 10 of Overwatch 2, the Blizzard team is set on implementing new features to help deal with disruptive chat and reporting! So, let's dive into the details of the update!

Overwatch 2 disruptive chat update

First off, when it comes to disruptive chat in Overwatch 2, Blizzard condemns any harassment in any form. Although there have been steps to identify disruptive chat and take decisive action, Blizzard wants to improve upon that formula. It's for the sake of making Overwatch 2 a better experience for all! And that's what this part of the Defense Matrix update is all about.

So what are these next steps? Well, every Overwatch 2 player has an endorsement rating, starting at level 1. When an Overwatch 2 player has an action against them taken for disruptive chat or cheating, their endorsement rating changes to level 0. This level 0 can only be reached once an action has been taken against a player for breaking Blizzard's in-game code of conduct.

When a player hits level 0, they will be unable to use either voice or text chat in their matches. However, this isn't permanent. Players can reach level 1 again by helping your team, communicating through the ping system and not being disruptive.

Faster reporting for the future

Also included in the Defense Matrix announcement is an update on the speed of reporting. In the same vein as the mitigation of the disruptive chat, Blizzard is working on improving the systems already in place. Currently, it's quite a challenge to report other players mid-game. However, the developers are creating a new interface to enable players to report toxic behavior significantly easier. Although we don't know much about the specifics, we know it'll be a improvement regardless.
