Overwatch 2 Battle Pass and support hero changes on the horizon

Overwatch 2 Season 2 will arrive on December 6th alongside Ramattra and updates to the game’s rewards.

Overwatch 2 Season 2 will include more ways to get skins so that the game feels more rewarding compared to the inaugural season. Meanwhile, changes to the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass and support heroes may be on the horizon. Read on for details!

Overwatch 2 Season 2 release date

The Overwatch 2 Season 2 release date is scheduled for December 6th. It will see the arrival of new hero Ramattra alongside updates to the game's rewards.

Each event will have a skin that can be earned by playing the game, according to a post by Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss. This will be in addition to other cosmetic items that the game already offers to its players. Overwatch 2 Season 2 will also continue with Twitch drop events, allowing players to get skins and other in-game loot.

"While we're working on the long-term plans, we want upcoming seasons to feel more rewarding than Season 1," Neuss wrote.

Overwatch 2 Battle Pass changes

As for the game's long-term plans, Neuss said his team is looking into "a mix of Battle Pass changes" for Overwatch 2 Season 3 and beyond. Additionally, there are currently ideas for more interesting challenges within the game and play-focused progression systems.

"In the short term, we’ve made queue-time estimates more accurate in the UI (support queues are less than one minute, in most cases) and we’re going to experiment with our Battle Pass XP rewards for those who queue as support/all roles," Neuss added.

Potential big changes coming to support heroes

On the topic of support heroes, changes to these heroes might be on the horizon. This is because the game has been seeing longer queue times for tank and dps players.

According to Neuss' post, the Overwatch 2 team is discussing targeted support hero reworks. A lot of the ideas are about making these heroes more rewarding and fun to play.

We’ve been making some adjustments to the matchmaking system, and we implemented some changes that should help the system more accurately determine a player’s skill tier and division.

MMR system adjustments

The post also acknowledged the state of competitive Overwatch 2, noting that there are aspects of the experience that they're improving.

"We’ve been making some adjustments to the matchmaking system, and we implemented some changes that should help the system more accurately determine a player’s skill tier and division," Neuss explained.

These changes are already in the game, but players can expect more noticeable effects when Overwatch Season 2 kicks off.

As for rank changes, rate of feedback and other topics, Neuss said players can expect more detailed information about those plans soon.

Hero balance changes and Mei's return

A bunch of heroes got balance changes and Mei returned on November 17th after a delay. The Overwatch 2 team is already planning ahead for more changes at the start of Season 2 as well, according to Neuss' post. They will see how the mid-season patch plays out first before sharing more information.
