Overwatch 2’s Aqua has “one of the most unique ability sets” ever

The Overwatch 2 Spotlight event that just happened revealed a bunch of exciting content for Season 15. However, it also gave players a look at what to expect later down the line — including a hero with the "Aqua" codename! Here's everything we know so far about Aqua in Overwatch 2.

During the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, senior narrative designer Jude Stacey gave players a first look at hero 44. This hero has the codename Aqua. He's also a Chinese character who wields the power of water.

"You probably want to know who the Season 18 hero will be," Stacey said. "I think it's fitting to give you a sneak peek at hero 44. Codenamed Aqua, this Chinese water wielder has one of the most unique ability sets that we have ever developed."

Stacey then added that players will learn more about Aqua later in 2025.

In terms of his abilities, Blizzard hinted that they are water-based ones. "Aqua is a Chinese hero, wielding water-based abilities that can manipulate the battlefield with an innovative playstyle. We’ll reveal more details on Aqua ahead of his release in Season 18."

The Overwatch 2 Spotlight event also revealed Aqua's concept art. The image featured the hero in different poses plus some direction in terms of his overall design. In the top-right corner, for example, we can see that it says "flowing clouds, flowing water" in Chinese!

In terms of this hero's release date, he's scheduled to arrive in Overwatch 2 Season 18. This means he's joining the roster after Freja. The latter character is slated to arrive in Season 16.
