Here’s how Overwatch 2 makes iconic references to anime!

Overwatch 2 has a lot of in-game nods to pop culture. From memes to anime Easter eggs, these references can make a player's experience more memorable. Read on for a list of some Overwatch 2 anime references!

Overwatch 2 anime references

Players who are fans of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure may notice that Lifeweaver's Strike a Pose spray is a reference to Josuke. This protagonist stars in the Diamond is Unbreakable part of the series! Lifeweaver's charm also means he has a spray that references the Ouran Highschool Host Club anime. This pose is a tribute to Tamaki, who is the protagonist's love interest.

Meanwhile, one of Hanzo's many voice lines goes, "I choose you, Spirit Dragon." This Spirit Dragon voice line is a reference to the Pokémon anime. In this franchise, Ash is known to say a Pokémon's name before going, "I choose you!"

Of course, we cannot forget about Overwatch 2's collaboration with One-Punch Man. This event introduced a bunch of in-game items such as Doomfist's One-Punch Man highlight intro, spray, and his Saitama skin!

The collaboration with One-Punch Man also featured Genji as Genos, Soldier: 76 as Mumen Rider, and Kiriko as Tatsumaki. Soldier: 76 even had the Cyclist of Justice victory pose!

Speaking of Genji, did you know that he also references Kamen Rider and the Super Sentai series? This is adapted into Power Rangers in the west. Currently, Genji has two variations of this skin, including a green and red one.

More Overwatch 2 anime references

Next, Moira has Gendo Ikari's famous pose as spray from the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. Another Overwatch 2 anime Easter egg is the Self-Experimentation spray that references Akira. The references don't end there as Moira's Coalescence ultimate, highlight intro and Power Level spray all reference Dragon Ball.

Speaking of this series, Baptiste has the Too Powerful spray that's a homage to the iconic "Over 9,000" moment!

Echo has a bunch of references to anime as well. For example, she has a Butterfly spray as a reference to the Brave of the Sun Fighbird anime's "Is this a Pigeon?" meme plus the Focus spray in honor of Dragon Ball Z!

Meanwhile, Ashe's Exchange spray refers to the Elric brothers from Full Metal Alchemist! While Ashe represents Edward, B.O.B. plays the role of Alphonse.

There are also references to the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. For example, Symmetra has the S-900 Sentry skin and even the Symmetra Vs. Sentry spray in honor of Eva-01.
