Blizzard Entertainment has released a new Overwatch comic about Sierra that goes into her search for her mother Kendra Woods. Her real name is Kendra Banks. Titled “New Heights,” the comic is narrated by Khaya Fraites, who is Sierra’s voice actor. Here’s what happens in the new Overwatch Sierra comic and what it means for the future of Overwatch’s lore and story.
Overwatch Sierra comic explained
Sierra’s new Overwatch comic begins with her sending a message to her mother Kendra. The message goes into Sierra’s promotion and new office. It also goes into her childhood, moving a lot, her difficulty in making friends in school despite being a top student and good at sports, and Kendra turning survival tactics into games.
When Sierra’s mother goes missing, Sierra meets up with her father James at Panola Mountain. They bond over their shared love for Kendra. Then, when Sierra discovers the government’s involvement in Kenda’s disappearance, she joins Overwatch to gain a higher security clearance, build a team of her own, and continue her search for answers.
“It’s been 12 long years, but I’m closer than ever to finding out what happened to you,” Sierra says in the “New Heights” comic while accessing secret files.
Sierra’s mother Kendra is Soldier 00 in Overwatch
According to Blizzard Entertainment, Sierra’s mother was the first-ever test subject in the Soldier Enhancement Program (SEP), linking her to the origins of super soldiers like Jack Morrison (now known as Soldier: 76) and Gabriel Reyes (now known as Reaper). Sierra’s investigation led her to both of these characters.
“She’s also carrying an impactful past — her mother was the first test subject in the Soldier Enhancement Program. Sierra has spent years searching for answers, and the trail leads directly to Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. She joins Overwatch under one condition: tell her everything they know,” Blizzard Entertainment stated.
SEP, also known as Project Naughton, was developed as a response to the Omnic Crisis as well. Victoria Naughton, the scientist behind the program, led its research. In a recent lore reveal, Emre raided the Naughton Vault and retrieved an unknown item for Talon under Vendetta’s rule.
If the vault is related to Victoria Naughton and SEP, then it’s possible that Talon wants to create super soldiers. Do note that this is a theory. Season 2 launches on April 14, and Blizzard Entertainment has 2026 and beyond to continue the franchise’s story.
