Overwatch 2 Guardian of Kanezaka explained
In Overwatch 2, Kanezaka is a quiet area that's close to Hanamura Castle. It features wooden structures alongside a Shinto shrine. This shrine is guarded by stone foxes. Thanks to her grandmother, Kiriko forged a strong bond with the fox spirit and serves as the shrine maiden.
As the Guardian of Kanezaka, Kiriko also protects her town from the Hashimoto clan. When she was little, the Hashimoto clan assassinated the head of the Shimada clan — also known as Hanzo and Genji's father. Heartbroken after supposedly killing Genji, Hanzo abandoned the Shimada clan. This allowed the Hashimotos to take over Hanamura.
Since Kiriko's family became a potential threat to the Hashimotos' rule, the clan kidnapped Kiriko's father. Asa, Kiriko's mother, had her hands tied because of this. She then sent Kiriko to her grandmother. Kiriko's grandmother helped her bond with the fox spirit. The hero herself also promised to restore peace in Kanezaka.
Kiriko and the Yōkai
The Overwatch 2 Guardian of Kanezaka manga also features the Yōkai working alongside Kiriko. This is a group in Hanamura whose mission is to hinder the Hashimoto clan. Kiriko's presence allowed the Yōkai of Hanamura to get better at sabotaging the Hashimoto clan's business deals, supply lines, and more.
