Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new mobile game called "Overwatch Rush." Described as a top-down hero shooter, this game is set in the Overwatch universe and is for iOS and Android users.
Overwatch Rush mobile game
On Feb. 24, Blizzard Entertainment announced Overwatch Rush as an entirely new game. It's being developed for mobile players by a new, separate team at the company. Team 4, meanwhile, is still focused on Overwatch itself for players on PC and console.
"Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players," the official announcement stated. "As we prepare for testing Overwatch Rush in select countries and regions, check out our official Discord server for updates on the game."
What is the Overwatch mobile game about?
Blizzard Entertainment also shared a preview of some Overwatch Rush gameplay. The video shows Overwatch teams duking it out on a mobile version of the Busan control map. The video can be watched below, however, do note that the footage is from early development and the game is still a work in progress.
"It is designed for fast-paced, on-the-go play, with hero-centric combat and playstyle customization that suits both team and solo players," added Blizzard Entertainment.
The company also shared some information about monetization. "Overwatch Rush is designed as a mobile free-to-play game with optional in-app purchases, and our vision is for player skill to be the deciding factor in matches. We'll be listening to player feedback on this topic, and monetization elements may be adjusted during testing phases."
Overwatch Rush release date
The release date for the new Overwatch mobile game has not been revealed yet. According to Blizzard Entertainment, it's currently far too early to confirm timing. However, lessons from test cycles will inform the plans for Overwatch Rush.
