The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection launches later this year, and it has (almost) everything you could want.
Following the proverbial demise of Mortal Kombat 1, fans of the franchise weren't sure what to expect. However, State of Play 2025 revealed the next step for the 30-year franchise. Developer Digital Eclipse announced the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, featuring nearly every classic game imaginable.
While it wasn't the next installment to the series, the news delighted the loud majority, who can't wait to play games like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 online. This article outlines everything we know about the Legacy Kollection.
This Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection includes nearly every classic title
Many fans of the series, both old and new, fondly remember the classic Mortal Kombat games. Apart from the ridiculously programmed AI, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3 set the stage for what would become a historical video game franchise.
Those who purchase the Legacy Kollection will have the chance to play these games and more. By more, we mean even games like the dreaded port of UMK3 for the Game Boy Advance will be available.
Here is a list of the confirmed titles included in the bundle per PlayStation:
- Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
- Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
- Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
- Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
- Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
- Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
- Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance
- ???
We did not add the three question marks above; that was Digital Eclipse. The developer, who has gained a reputation for restoring the classics, left the remaining games ambiguous. Many fans have speculated that these could include Mortal Kombat: Deception, Armageddon, and even perhaps the 2011 reboot.
You can play all of these MK games online
Although the thought of playing a restored version of Mortal Kombat 2 in 2025 is appealing, imagine doing that online. Thankfully, the trailer confirmed online play with rollback netcode, which should provide the best possible experience.
The online play will presumably be available for every game. That means the aforementioned MK Advance, as well as the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis versions of these games.

Mortal Kombat's various "secrets" will be unlocked in the Legacy Kollection
One part of the blog post from Digital Eclipse touched on the many secrets of Mortal Kombat. The author confirmed, "We will give you open access to everything in these games without need for hidden codes or memorization." That means players can easily trigger the secret fights and characters.
Unfortunately, the article didn't outline how this feature will work, but it added that it won't be a secret for long.
What could the mystery games be?
The last item of note that's worth covering is the games Digital Eclipse kept under wraps. We are familiar with every conceivable version from Mortal Kombat (1992) through Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (2003), but a few games were excluded.
Some of the key titles not mentioned are Gold, Trilogy, Deception, Shaolin Monks, and Armageddon. The likeliest games left out could be MK Gold and Trilogy, as both are essentially updated versions of already established games.
Only time will tell as the countdown to the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is on. Digital Eclipse did not outline a specific release date, but we know that it will arrive later this year.
