Putting aside all the turmoil around the short lifespan of Mortal Kombat 1, this tournament features exciting competition in a pretty great game.

Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) broke into the esports dimension of the fighting games community (FGC) with an unusual concept and big promises. It’s the first Mortal Kombat game with assistant characters, Kameo Fighters, which makes some crazy combos possible. The NetherRealm Studios promised long-term support with a nice variety of content for this game.

The competitive side of things wasn’t perfect, but it was alright for MK1 to march across the world with big tournaments. But the development support failed awfully in terms of new characters. We received only two seasons.

With the game’s fate taking a dark turn, having the Pro Kompetition 2025 event feels like a nice treat. We could witness a few big offline tournaments throughout the season, and the online leagues happened in the biggest regions. It comes to an end here, at the Final Kombat 2025 event. The chances that we have a conclusion of the official competition in Mortal Kombat 1 are really high.

In terms of production, the event was a mess. It surprised us with technical issues on the stream, like mixing English and Spanish commentary and constant skips of the announced start time. Moreover, the final brackets were somehow changed manually twice after the group stage — which doesn't feel right at all.

From the competitive side of thing, the matches were just great. Scorpionprocs defeated the two biggest favorites, SonicFox and Kanimani. Also, the guy beat his twin brother in the winners final.

Another MK1 title for SonicFox or a new champion — Pre-tournament overview

It’s hard not to see an elephant in this room: SonicFox is the favorite of Final Kombat 2025. The legendary player has quite a few achievements in Mortal Kombat 1.

Winning is never guaranteed in esports, and Final Kombat 2025 has some really strong contenders for the new Champion.

  • Kanimani dominated European qualifiers of the MK1 Pro Kompetition 2025, like viennality 2k25. It’s interesting to witness this player in the international environment.
  • Scorpionprocs is the MK11 Evo 2022 Champion. This season, he won Blink Respawn 2025.
  • Nicolas, the twin brother of Scorpionprocs, often reaches top placements, and he can make the final dash to the biggest MK1 title.
  • Rewind is an extremely strong player, but SonicFox stops him at so many top events, like Evo 2025.

Tekken Master, Grr, Tweedy, and VideoGamezYo are also interesting players to follow during Final Kombat 2025. They bring unique styles to the competition and really have the skills to make it to the top.

The competitive future of Mortal Kombat 1 is obscure at the moment, even on the non-official level. The game is not part of the official Evo France 2025 lineup. Still, it’s present at other multi-title events, such as First Attack 2025, from Oct. 25 to Oct. 26, and Frosty Faustings XVIII, from Jan 29 to Feb. 1.
