Which team will become the first world champion? Eight teams compete for the glory and a chunk of the $2 million prize pool.
After intense play-ins and a group stage, we’ve entered the final leg of the League of Legends: Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022. Eight teams will be competing in the Wild Rift Icons Knockout stage from July 1 to 9 to crown the first-ever world champion.
The Wild Rift Icons is taking place at the Suntec Convention and Exhibition Center in Singapore. The champion will walk away with $640,000 of the $2 million prize pool, according to Liquipedia. Here is everything you need to know about the Knockout Stage.
Wild Rift Icons 2022 Knockout bracket locked in
The top two teams from each of the four groups have qualified for the knockout stage. The first-placed teams from each group match up against the second-place team from another group.
The eight teams will battle in a single-elimination bracket to decide the champion. All matches will be played in a best-of-five, except for the grand finals which will be a best-of-seven.
All Chinese teams make it out of groups
After dominating the Horizon Cup last year, China seems set to continue its reign at the top as all four teams from the region have made it to the Wild Rift Icons Knockout Stage.
The four Chinese teams, namely Nova Esports, FPX, J Team, and JD Gaming, were seeded into four different groups – and all of them managed to top their respective groups without dropping a single series.
Thus, every quarterfinal match-up will have a Chinese team competing. If all of the Chinese teams manage to win, the Icons Global Championship could become an all-Chinese affair from the semifinals itself.
Besides the Chinese teams being the obvious favorites, a lot of people will be looking out for the first seeds from SEA, Team Flash. Behind China, SEA is possibly the next strongest region and Team Flash will be looking to carry the region’s name all the way.
