Iconic mobile game Flappy Bird set to fly back to our phones in 2025

We all know the story of Flappy Bird. It became an overnight sensation, with over 100 million users. But the creator felt guilt for its addictive nature, ultimately taking it down. That spawned eBay listings asking for thousands of dollars for phones with Flappy Bird still installed.

Well, a decade after its rise and fall, the bird hatches again. The Flappy Bird Foundation has acquired the rights and intends on delivering a new version of the game in 2025, with new characters and more platform availability than before.

A beautiful trailer launched on September 11, 2024 with the words "Flappy Bird Will Fly Again." It is almost like the end of an MCU film, where you'd see "Thor will return" or something like that.

Excuse us if we get a little emotional, as Flappy Bird is older than some of our children. It was a historical event, when it arrived and was subsequently shuttered. And honestly, we've never seen anything in gaming or mobile culture like it. Before or since.

So, take it how you will. If you are excited to tap your screen and make that little bird flap once again, we're excited along with you. If you believe its addiction will cause disruption once more, than we'll be cautious with you.

Either way, Flappy Bird is back and apparently here to stay. There are new modes, new characters, and very enthusiastic support from its new owners. Will it reach its former heights? Probably not, but anything is possible.

The original Flappy Bird returns, along with the mode where you just tap away and try to keep the bird from hitting obstacles for as long as you can. But with the new acquisition comes additional characters and modes to enjoy once the title returns in 2025.
