“The other shoe finally dropped and Microsoft has now laid off me along with the entire Warcraft Rumble team.”
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that Warcraft Rumble will no longer receive new content. This shifts the game into maintenance mode, much like Heroes of the Storm. The announcement arrived shortly after the latest round of Microsoft layoffs, which reportedly included the entire Warcraft Rumble team.

Warcraft Rumble enters maintenance mode
On July 2, Blizzard Entertainment revealed that Warcraft Rumble will no longer have any new content moving forward. However, the game will continue getting support in terms of bug fixes and in-game event updates.
According to the company, Warcraft Rumble has struggled to meet long-term sustainability expectations since its launch. Listening to player feedback, refocusing efforts, and looking into new options resulted in signs of progress, but that wasn't enough.
"During this transition, we are focused on supporting our teammates," the announcement added. "We’re deeply grateful to everyone at Blizzard and in the community for helping bring Warcraft Rumble to life and embracing the joy that makes this game so special. Your enthusiasm and feedback mean the world to us. "

Microsoft layoffs affect entire Warcraft Rumble team
Over on LinkedIn, client engineer Alex Apple revealed that Microsoft laid off the entire Warcraft Rumble team.
"The other shoe finally dropped and Microsoft has now laid off me along with the entire Warcraft Rumble team. Time to start the grind all over again," Apple stated.
The Microsoft layoffs also affected other teams at Blizzard Entertainment, including graphic designer ArcaneRatsel. On X, ArcaneRatsel stated that they were let go after eight years at the company. He described the experience as heartbreaking.
A love letter to Azeroth
The official announcement also noted that Warcraft Rumble began development nine years ago as a love letter to Azeroth. This inspiration is evident in the game's sound effects, artwork, stages, leader units, kits, raids, and so much more. Warcraft Rumble interviews with esports.gg also highlight the team's passion for unleashing joyful chaos over the years.
