MPL PH Season 16 Playoffs head to a live sporting arena venue

It’s official, the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Philippines (MPL PH) Season 16 Playoffs stage will be held at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City. This venue is historic in the region, as it is widely known as the home of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Additionally, this will be the first esports event that the venue will host. 

Aside from the intense matches, the upcoming MPL PH Season 16 venue will also be hosting activities for the community. This includes a festival area where both fans and curious onlookers can check out what the game and its esports scene have to offer.  

With that said, here is what you need to know about the upcoming MPL PH Season 16 Playoffs.

The upcoming MPL PH Season 16 will kick off on Oct. 22 and will last until Oct. 26. The final phase of the seasonal league debuts at Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City, Philippines. For the first time, the venue gets a massive upgrade, holding up to 2,000 fans to witness the event live. This is also the first time the Astrodome welcomes an esports tournament on top of hosting traditional sporting events.

According to Lee Viloria, PH Esports' head of business development and partnerships at MOONTON Games, the iconic venue serves as the perfect stage to crown legends in MLBB esports. 

“The move to the Cuneta Astrodome marks a historic step for MPL Philippines as we celebrate the eras of the league with our fans. This iconic venue has been home to unforgettable moments in Philippine sports, and now, it will also stand as the stage where Filipino esports continues to make history," Viloria said during the press conference.

MPL PH holds its previous seasons at various major locations in the Philippines. However, the league hosts for the first time in a venue as massive as the Cuneta Astrodome.

With that said, Garry Reyala, the administration officer at Cuneta Astrodome, shared how the arena has been home to many traditional sports and cultural events. Hosting an esports event as big as MPL PH proves how committed they are to evolving with the times and embracing the future of competition.

“With MPL Philippines at the forefront, we see that esports is no longer just a game, but a sport, career, and community that inspires millions," Reyala said. "Hosting MPL Philippines here shows that Cuneta Astrodome is not only honoring tradition, but also embracing the future. Just as we once became the home of basketball, we are proud to be a home for esports.”

Aside from the MPL PH Season 16 Playoffs stage, the venue will also be hosting the MPL Festival Superfan City. From Oct. 22 to Oct. 26, the MLBB esports and gaming community can immerse themselves in this new on-ground festivity that is a 100% free walk-in event at the Cuneta Astrodome Open Space. 

There will be cosplay showcases with MLBB heroes as their theme, interactive sponsor booths with exciting giveaways, fan meet-and-greet sessions, live watch parties, and more immersive activities for the community. More details about the event will be revealed at a later date.
