Marvel Rivals players will now have to go through several Placement Matches before getting their actual rank.

Season 5 of Marvel Rivals is pushing many changes to the heroes, but it doesn't stop there. All players who want to climb the Marvel Rivals ranked ladder will now have to play Placement Matches before they can begin in earnest (or claim the ranked rewards). Here's everything you need to know about Placement Matches in Marvel Rivals.

This patch also adds Gambit, the newest Strategist in the Marvel Rivals roster.

Marvel Rivals Placement Matches in Season 5

Every season, players will have to complete 10 Placement Matches to get their rank. Before these 10 games are completed, they are given a "predicted rank," which will determine matchmaking for the duration of the placements.

The official patch notes emphasized that the predicted rank is not your actual rank. You will be granted your actual rank after the placement games. The two may differ.

It's also worth noting that the placement matches are required per season, not half. For example, if you complete your placements for Season 5.0, you will retain your rank and not have to do placements again for Season 5.5.

Placements must be completed to earn ranked rewards.

Predicted rank in Marvel Rivals

Two criteria will be used to determine the predicted rank of players going through placements for the first time.

  1. For players who have played 10 or more ranked matches in Season 4: Your predicted rank starts at your Season 4 final rank, minus three divisions. Players who ended in Celestial II and higher will all be reset to Grandmaster II.
  2. Your peak rank in any previous season with at least 10 ranked matches, minus some sub-tiers (capped at Platinum III).

The higher of these two will be your beginning predicted rank.

For new players (players who have not played 10 ranked matches in a season), your predicted rank will be Silver III.

For subsequent seasons after completing placements, your future predicted ranks will be your previous final rank minus three divisions. Players who finish in Celestial II and higher will all be set to Grandmaster II.

Queueing for Placement Matches in Marvel Rivals

There are some queueing restrictions during your placement matches.

Firstly, the maximum party size when a member is in their placements is three. For ranks with stricter queue restrictions, those will apply. Parties with a member in placements will use the highest-ranked player to determine the MMR.
