Worlds 2023 is nearly here, the patch has been released, and all the teams have been confirmed. Now it's time for a breakdown of the Worlds 2023 schedule! It's the ten-year anniversary of Worlds, and there is so much to be excited about with all 22 teams touching down in South Korea.
Worlds 2023 Schedule and format
You may have heard that the Worlds 2023 schedule and format has changed. Here is a breakdown of the stages and how many teams will play in each.
Stage 1 - Play-Ins - October 10 to 15
- First and second seed teams of the VCS and PCS
- First seed of LLA, CBLoL and LJL
- The winner of the Worlds Qualifying Series (which is between LCS and LEC)
- Eight teams play two BO3 double elimination brackets
- The top team from each bracket faces off against the second place team from the other bracket in a final BO5
- The two winners from these BO5 move onto the Swiss stage
Stage 2 - Swiss Stage - October 19 to 29
- Two teams from Play-ins
- Top three seeds from LCS and LEC
- Top four teams from LCK and LPL
- 16 teams begin with an 8 BO1 matches based on seeding
- Second round sees teams drawn into matches based on having the same record
- This then continues for another three rounds - putting teams of the same record against one another
- A team then needs three wins to advance, or three losses to be eliminated
- ALL advancement and elimination matches are BO3
Stage 3 - Knockouts - November 2 to 19
- Eight teams
- BO5 single elimination bracket
- Every match matters -- No second chances or do-overs
