MSI 2023, the first League of Legends event of the year, is only a few days away. Thirteen of the best League of Legends squads from across the globe will take to the stage in London, England. This year, fans will get to witness MSI in a brand new format that introduces more games as well as double-elimination brackets. Which teams are competing at MSI 2023?

With the changes to the MSI format, for the first time, there will be two seeds being sent from the major regions, making this a thirteen-team tournament. This event will see the return of several long-standing international squads such as T1, G2 Esports, Gen.G, and Cloud9. There is also a couple of squads that will be making their MSI debut such as Bilibili Gaming and Golden Guardians. The tournament is rounded out by some of the strongest emerging region squads such as PSG Talon and DetonatioN FocusMe.

What is the MSI 2023 format?

In early January, Riot Games made the announcement that the format for MSI 2023 and Worlds 2023 will be drastically changing. MSI will now see the three-stage event cut down into two stages, the play-in stage and the bracket stage.

The MSI 2023 play-in stage will see eight teams compete across two double-elimination brackets. Each group will have four teams. Each match will be a best-of-three series with the group winners advancing to the bracket stage. The group runner-ups will face each other in a Last Chance Qualifier. The LCQ series will be a best-of-five to determine the third and final team in the bracket stage.

Fans have finally received their wish, MSI's bracket stage will see eight teams compete in a double-elimination bracket. Gen.G, T1, Cloud9, MAD Lions, and JDG have already qualified for the bracket stage based on their domestic success and will be joined by the three play-in squads. Every series in the bracket stage will be a best-of-five.

What is the MSI 2023 prize pool?

The minimum prize pool for the Mid-Season Invitational is $250,000 which will be distributed amongst the teams. Further in-client revenue has yet to be added to the prize pool. Here is how the minimum $250,000 will be distributed:

  • 1st: $50,000
  • 2nd: $37,500
  • 3rd: $30,000
  • 4th: $25,000
  • 5th-6th: $20,000
  • 7th-8th: $15,000
  • 9th: $12,500
  • 10th-11th: $7500
  • 12th-13th: $5000
