G2 vs BLG: The winners' last breath

G2 Esports versus Bilibili Gaming is a game you cannot miss. A winner versus a winner. They conquered everything in their leagues, they proved they're incredibly good teams and performers in this competition. G2 faced paiN Gaming, Hanwha Life, T1, and Weibo Gaming — teams with great history and fantastic players. With two wins and two losses, G2 must defeat the LPL winner — the Chinese titans BLG. Will they be able to qualify and be the only European team to do it?

Bilibili Gaming took down the ones that we're not the favorites — MAD Lions KOI and PSG Talon — but was unable to take down two giants of LoL — LNG Esports and T1. It's weird to think of BLG so down in the bracket, but this LoL Worlds edition has been a true challenge to the Chinese team. Now, their last challenge is the giant of European LoL — G2 Esports. Which number team will qualify for the Knockout Stage?

LoL Worlds 2024 G2 vs BLG match recaps

Welcome to the LoL Worlds 2024 match recaps. Here, you can find the key moments of every match between G2 and BLG. Come back here when the games are over.

Game 1

The TOPFATHER against the GIGABIN. Two kills for BLG in little time. Even with a bad fight for G2, the Europeans were able to kill Kai’Sa, but Mikyx fell as well.

Hans Sama was caught by Xun and ended up dead. What a great pick from BLG. Yike did the Drake and got a kill, but BLG maintained the gold advantage on their side. BLG was finding amazing picks all over the map. Another kill, another tower for BLG. G2 members just kept getting caught. The fights were too uncoordinated.

With BLG holding a crushing 6,000 gold advantage, G2 was in trouble. Even Hans Sama’s double kill in the bot lane and BrokenBlade’s top turret takedown couldn't shift the momentum. BLG quickly jumped on Caps and Hans Sama, shutting down their efforts. Despite the crowd’s passionate chants of “Let’s go G2,” it was tough for the team to break through BLG’s dominance.

G2 was obligated to play in a group, having to share a lot of gold and experience. They tried to do Baron to gain an advantage, but they couldn’t pull it off. BLG just went down and stopped the Baron. It was an immaculate performance from BLG. G2 managed to kill Elk, the squishy member, but that wasn't enough — there simply wasn’t enough damage. BLG won the first match.

Game 2

G2 changed their draft completely for this match. It was do or die — change the strategy or go home. Will G2 be capable of winning the second match?

G2 started with more confidence in this match since BLG couldn't find as many picks as in the previous game. G2 then found some very interesting picks on the map and secured there Voidgrubs, but first blood went to Xun at the eight-minute mark. Caps and Mikyx tried hard to take down Neeko, but she was too well protected by Xin Zhao and Renata. BLG then secured the remaining three Voidgrubs. However, G2 found the perfect angle to gain an advantage on BLG!

BrokenBlade's Yasuo was incredibly good. What a great pick on the top lane — two BLG men down! There was a perfect combo between Skarner, Yasuo, and Sylas as well. Their confidence was different from the first match, and the team fights were much more coordinated. G2 was finding their rhythm. Then, Skarner pulled off an insane play by catching two BLG players from the other side of the Baron wall!

This was the G2 Esports that Europe had been waiting for! G2 invaded BLG’s base and took control of everything. The victory was European! They moved on to Match 3.

Game 3

What a draft from both teams. It was palpable how much both teams wanted to win and go to Paris. "Let's go G2" was all we could hear from the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany. The bot lane was difficult for G2, but the mid lane was pretty comfortable for an old pick from Caps: the Ryze. And the first kill went to Yike. G2's confidence was outstanding. The Taric presence was perfect to guarantee some support in the mid lane.

BLG calmly secured the first three Voidgrubs while G2 opted to take Drake. There weren't many confrontations in the first 12 minutes, as both teams focused on side pushing and objectives. Then, Bin was caught in BLG's jungle, and Yike was starting to gain strength. BLG's macro looked better than G2's, and the European team needed a good pick to gain an advantage. A crucial fight broke out near the river, resulting in three players from each team going down.

The gold was balanced, and G2 was allowing Caps to scale. G2's greed almost changed everything in the game. Caps's death and the resulting bounty were perfect for Bin to gain some item strength. G2 found a great pick in their jungle and secured five kills. However, with an overly ambitious play, BLG capitalized on G2's mistakes, securing key kills and taking Baron. What an incredible performance and what a game! BLG was too powerful at that moment, taking full advantage of G2's greedy plays.

BLG started a great fight, but G2 Esports turned it in their favor. However, Elk was just too good. The game was paused due to the intense emotions and pressure on everyone. According to Riot Games, Hans Sama was the one who paused the game due to a possible bug with the E ability. The pause lasted several minutes, but the Riot Games team determined that there was no bug during the team fight, and the game resumed from where it left off.

BLG won the game after everything resumed.
