Road to the Finals

Six League of Legends esports teams participate in LEC Season Finals 2024. Their path to this event was pretty different.

G2 Esports

On the one hand, LoL G2 Esports are the best team in LEC. The players won all three splits, and no one could really contest them. But on the other hand, the LEC Summer 2024 split has shown how shaky G2 play can be.

They lost a few matches in the first half of the Regular Season. They fell into the lower brackets after the final against Fnatic. And even those League of Legends final matches G2 Esports won, did not go strictly by their plan.

In the lower-bracket final and grand final, G2 had to respond to the offensive actions of their opponent; they were rather reacting than having full control in their hands. The final Summer match vs Fnatic was on the verge of disaster, and only the amazing clutch skills helped G2 to win.

G2 Esports qualified for the LoL World 2024 from the LEC Summer. Therefore, only two spots are left for EU teams.

Fnatic

The team had ups and downs this season, certainly. Fnatic couldn’t defeat G2 in the grand finals of Spring and Summer splits. But that still was quite progress compared to Winter, when Fnatic finished 4th after losing to MAD Lions KOI in the lower-bracket semi-final.

It may feel like Fnatic are cursed to be second in LEC. The players sure have great matches, but way too often, they lose because of their mistakes.

Team BDS

The curse of Team BDS (an imaginary one, sure) is even more annoying. They finished 3rd in all three splits in 2024 — despite having pretty good runs in all of them.

In the LEC Summer 2024 split, Team BDS finished the Regular season first (sharing with SK Gaming). In the Playoffs, the players reached the lower-bracket final but were stopped by G2 Esports.

MAD Lions KOI

It is quite possible to call these guys heroes of the LEC Summer 2024 Regular Season. But MAD Lions KOI first created problems for themselves and then successfully solved them.

The team was on the verge of elimination. With the risk of staying out of the playoffs, MAD Lions KOI won the final match vs Rogue and then two tiebreakers (Rogue and Team Vitality).

The playoffs turned out to be less intense but also less successful. MAD Lions KOI were eliminated after losing to Team BDS and Karmine Corp. They qualified for LEC Season Finals 2024 thanks to the championship points.

SK Gaming

The peak result for SK Gaming this season was top 1 placement at the LEC Summer 2024 Regular Season — but even that SK shared with Team BDS.

Beyond that, it feels like SK Gaming reach as high in the 2024 playoffs as… Fnatic, Team Vitality, and Karmine Corp let them. And any other team can join here.

In the Season Finals, SK Gaming is already in the lower bracket.

GIANTX

It’s one more team in the lower bracket. Like SK Gaming, GIANTX qualified for the LEC Season Finals 2024 thanks to the championship points. Their results in the splits are not too impressive.

In Winter and Spring, the players were eliminated after two first matches. In the Summer split, GIANTX won their second game (vs Team Heretics) but the third opponent eliminated them.

The next step for the LoL community is the League of Legends World Championship 2024. It happens from September 25 to November 02. For everything about this and other tournaments, stick around on esports.gg!
