The Esports World Cup takes place in Riyadh this summer

League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics are joining the ever-growing list of titles at the Esports World Cup 2024. Riot Games announced that teams from LoL and TFT will be allowed to participate in the Esports World Cup in Riyadh.

Riot’s League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics join the Esports World Cup

The Esports World Cup had already announced several titles, but Riot Games’ LoL was a notable exclusion. With Riot Games allowing teams to participate in the Esports World Cup 2024, it provides teams and players an opportunity to have additional revenue sources and compete at the highest level.

The EWC is not an official LoL Esports event, Riot will not be involved in the production, and Riot will not select the teams that compete.

Riot Game emphasizes that the Esports World Cup is not an official League of Legends esports event. This means that Riot Games is not involved in the production or the qualifiers leading up to the event. Riot’s MOBA features a closed ecosystem where the top teams compete in regional leagues and international events produced by Riot Games.

The decision to include their two titles in the Esports World Cup 2024 was taken after careful consideration. Riot Games mentions this as an opportunity for Pro teams and players as well as a meaningful experience for fans. Alleviating some of the economic challenges faced by esports teams was also a big contributing factor for Riot Games' decision.

The EWC offers not only the chance to compete on an international stage but also the ability to earn a piece of a meaningful prize pool, which helps enhance financial stability
