Gen.G are eager to achieve another international win in 2025. G2 have been looking pretty strong at the Esports World Cup 2025 so far, and they sure want to have another big victim on their achievements list.
Some would say Gen.G got themselves pretty easy brackets. The Champions of the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI 2025) faced FlyQuest in the quarterfinals. Korean League of Legends (LoL) teams absolutely must defeat North American competitors, but the match was surprisingly intense. Their semifinal opponent was another Western team.
G2 have already defeated an Eastern beast. In the quarterfinal, they won a match against BLG. These opponents created lots of trouble for G2 Esports: at the Worlds 2024 and MSI 2025. After that success, fans were be cautiously optimistic about the LoL EWC 2025 semifinal versus Gen.G. G2 lost but did not disappoint.

Match recap
The teams exchanged dominant games to spice the series up. First, Gen.G found a moment to build their crucial advantage and smash G2 down. Then, it was the turn of G2 to farm kills across the map, build their power, and destroy the Nexus. Two Pentakills completed these battles: for Chovy in game 1 and Hans Sama in game 2.
The decisive game was somewhat risky from Gen.G: many fights ended with super little health on their LoL Champions. However, that risk paid off properly — the Korean team developed a solid advantage to deliver the final strike.
Gen.G win the semifinal versus G2. They have the LoL EWC 2025 grand final against Anyone’s Legend.

Game 1
The early game was pretty even, but then Chovy unleashed the power of his Smolder to help Gen.G win a team fight and secure Voidgrubs. To make the situation even worse for G2, Labrov and BrokenBlade overstepped on the Bot lane and just died.
After that moment, the game fell apart for G2. They were losing fights and they couldn’t secure any objectives. Gen.G did whatever they wanted on the map, including taking Atakhan and Soul.
In a harsh team fight, Chovy earned a Pentakill — sure, Gen.G won game 1.
Game 2
G2 started with early pressure, including farming Gen.G’s jungle. Early kills went to both teams, not just to Gen.G.
The trades brought two Dragons for the Korean team, though. They got the first turret, and the game felt even for quite a while. But then, G2 suddenly started winning crucial fights, and objectives went their way. In the blink of an eye, G2 controlled the entire map.
There still were glimpses of hope for Gen.G, like winning a difficult but successful gank on the Bot or taking Atakhan.
G2 were pretty smart in those situations. They did not contest unnecessarily, but when they fought, they directed gold to their AD Carry. Xayah of Hans Sama developed enormous power. Gen.G started a good fight around Baron, but they did not have enough damage — thanks to great positioning, Hans Sama survived and earned even more kills.
G2 patiently opened up Gen.G’s base. They went for Baron and the final siege only when all the Inhibitors were down. This time, it was the turn of Hans Sama to earn a Pentakill before destroying Nexus.
G2 are so back in the LoL EWC 2025 semifinal against Gen.G!
Game 3
From a fairly even start, through wonderfully close fights, and to a dominant end — Gen.G did not have a flawless game, but they won it.
Kiin on Ambessa was a crucial factor in this success. He constantly pressured BrokenBlade and did not let Sion reach his full potential. Sure, Kiin overextended a bit and gave some good moments to G2. But eventually, he became an unstoppable beast.
A crucial fight happened near Atakhan. Thanks to Braum’s shield by Duro, Gen.G avoided a shot from Hans Sama’s Ezreal — to strike back, win the objective, and earn some kills.
After that, the game went down for G2. In the fights, everyone was in low health, but somehow it was Gen.G players who survived.
Eventually, the power of Gen.G snowballed, and they destroyed the Nexus.
The final matches of the LoL Esports World Cup 2025 happen on July 20. The main event of the year, LoL Worlds 2025, is from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1.
