After a crushing 3-0 defeat against FlyQuest, G2’s BrokenBlade opens up about his struggles, the mistakes made, and the path forward.
G2 Esports was eliminated from MSI 2025 after a decisive 3-0 defeat to FlyQuest. The European squad struggled to contain FlyQuest’s dominance throughout the series. On Independence Day, North America celebrated a significant victory over one of its longest-standing rivals in the League of Legends scene.
In an exclusive interview with esports.gg, G2’s BrokenBlade reflected on what went wrong, the team’s underwhelming performances during the tournament, and the key areas that need to be reassessed moving forward.
Struggling to counter FlyQuest’s plays and the Yorick-Trundle duo
Esports.gg: In the first matches, G2 started very coordinated and synchronized. What did go wrong?
G2 BrokenBlade: I think we just shut down in the games, and there wasn't really much to play. We just got crushed by how they were playing. We weren't able to contest anything; we were always on the back foot. Today was a disaster.
Would you say it was more about the draft, or did nerves and frustration end up playing a bigger role?
BrokenBlade: I don't think we had a mismatch in the composition. I think we're doing well in the last game. They picked Yorick with the Trundle, and I was going for a Gwen with a Vi, but they banned it, which was pretty good for them. Then I had to play Cho'Gath. It was really the only thing that I had prepared for Yorick, rather than Gwen and Jax, who was also banned. It was kind of tough. I was well in the game, but I just got melted by Trundle's ultimate, and it ended up not being so great. It is quite hard to play against an AP Kai'Sa and Trundle, so it was quite tough.
Bwipo's Garen was quite unexpected. How did you prepare for that choice?
BrokenBlade: I knew that Garen was coming when I picked K'Sante. I just know that in the past, Bwipo would have liked to play it. Honestly, I don't think he had much impact in that game, but it is always a pick that is annoying to play against. He cleared the waves, he just ran mid a lot with Stridebreaker, and one of those times he caught us off guard.

"We have to accept that we were not better than FlyQuest."
How different was this series from what you expected when studying FlyQuest before the match?
BrokenBlade: It was pretty much expected, I knew they were going lane swaps, and we answered those quite well, aside from the last game. Obviously, we were prepared to win today, not to get a 3-0, but sometimes things don't go the way you want to, and we have to accept that we were not better than FlyQuest. We have to do everything within our power to get better.
This is a very hard loss for G2 in a while. How do you personally process a result like this?
BrokenBlade: I still did not have time to process this loss, so I can't answer this question now.
With this loss, what do you think needs to change heading into future tournaments?
BrokenBlade: We just need to find a way to play the game better as five. Right now, we are lost on the map. It has been hard to progress in the game. We didn't play good League of Legends (LoL) today, we didn't play well in LoL this MSI this year. We're going back home, so we can play the best LoL we can.
What did G2 BrokenBlade take away from MSI 2025
What is the one thing you take away from this MSI 2025 experience?
BrokenBlade: The thing I take away is that we are closer to what we want to be, and we need to take this as a learning lesson. Otherwise, we would just come back and get crushed. I want to learn as much as possible and take as much as possible from this MSI. I'm not happy with it, especially with my own performance at the beginning. I think my performance was not great then. Later, I was happier with it, but it can't happen again at an international tournament.
What are your plans now? Will you take some days off to rest, or are you going to start G2's preparation for the Esports World Cup right away?
BrokenBlade: The Esports World Cup is next, so we are going to be preparing for that.
