“That just shows Razer’s faith in Faker and Faker’s faith in us.”

This year, Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok made history again by winning another League of Legends World Championship (Worlds 2025) while using Razer gear. However, for Razer, the victory did not come as a surprise.

Thanks to Faker's long-standing use of the Razer DeathAdder and his meticulous approach to preparation and performance, the company had confidence in his ability to win on the world stage. Jeffrey Chau, Razer's global head of esports, spoke with esports.gg about why the brand believed in Faker's success and how that trust shaped the Razer x Faker partnership for a decade.

Razer x Faker at Worlds 2025: DeathAdder for the win

In his interview with esports.gg, Chau revealed that Razer had prepared months in advance for Faker’s sixth Worlds. The team increased their inventory, coordinated with Faker's team, and even created over 40 campaign assets.

It was a bold choice to hinge the activation on Faker and T1 winning Worlds 2025, but the gamble clearly paid off. The Razer x Faker campaign reached over 50 million impressions and 200,000 engagements as well, according to Chau.

"That just shows Razer's faith in Faker and Faker's faith in us," Chau said, adding that he's proud of the activation. "We got all of his stats. We worked with his team and made sure that all his stats were accurate and everything was ready to go. We launched the campaign as soon as he won."

Razer's confidence in Faker's win also came from seeing how methodically Faker tests products and prepares for tournaments. According to Chau, Faker not only tests every mouse and prototype thoroughly, but he gives deliberate feedback on weight, base, micro movements, and more, often taking a full week instead of one day to assess each product.

Breathing, sleeping, and eating properly: Faker's winning formula

"Another reason why I believe that Faker would pull through is because one of his favorite books is called 'Breathe,'" Chau said.

"So for his 29th birthday, which is May 7, we actually gifted fans 29 of his favorite books. And we asked him, 'What book would you like to choose for you to celebrate your birthday?' And he said 'Breathe.' [...] It's a book that's based on scientific evidence about how breathing can help you control your mind and your body.

"And there's a technique to breathing where it's nose breathing and the seconds you breathe in and the seconds you exhale. There's a whole process to it. And he said it's really changed how he breathes on stage."

He continued, recalling that Faker uses structured breathing techniques to manage nerves. He studies psychology, breathing, and sleep to optimize his physical and mental performance, too. Chau then explained that Faker's other favorite book is 'Why We Sleep,' which influences his strict routine involving nine hours of rest, eating healthy, and drinking only fresh juice and smoothies. Chau said he saw this firsthand during Faker's stay in Singapore with Razer.

"His other favorite book is 'Why We Sleep,'" Chau added, also recalling his own days as a coach and teaching players the importance of getting a good night's rest.

"And when [Faker] was in Singapore, we had to end all of our activations at 6:30 because he had a strict routine. He had to follow dinner and then sleep -- get nine hours of sleep. So I was super impressed. He's very strict on himself and holds himself back.

"He eats very healthy. When we had our esports summit when he visited Singapore, we asked him what drinks would he [like] because we have alcoholic drinks and all that. He doesn't drink alcohol and only wants freshly-squeezed smoothies and juices. So everything about him is just fine-tuned to be the greatest of all time."

What's next for Faker?

Chau added he has worked with many world-class pro players, but he has never met anyone like Faker. The player's ambition also gave him confidence that the Razer's Worlds 2025 campaign would succeed. This was further reinforced after Chau asked Faker about how he felt about his career after Worlds 2024.

"He literally just won his World Championship, and I'm there meeting him, and he was like, 'Jeff, I'm going to continue to peak.' He said that he's going to continue to peak. He's at his peak, and he's still peaking. And I was so impressed by that answer," Chau said.

As for parting words, Chau said esports will always chase lower latency because milliseconds decide who reacts first. He added that PC gaming and peripherals will continue to drive esports growth. Additionally, while mobile esports remains important, Chau believes PC esports will lead the future due to higher fidelity, faster response, greater precision, and competitive advantage.
