Faker calls Chovy “an incredibly talented player” and believes he has what it takes to win Worlds someday.

T1 has once again proven themselves as one of the best League of Legends (LoL) teams, securing its place in the 2024 Worlds Finals after a decisive Semifinals victory over fellow LCK team, Gen.G. This wasn’t just another win for T1, given the intense rivalry between T1 and Gen.G — and the ongoing competition between their star midlaners, Faker and Chovy.

Gen.G entered Worlds 2024 as one of the tournament's favorites, riding a strong season that included a Spring LCK trophy, an MSI title, and a runner-up finish in the Summer LCK. Notably, T1 hadn’t beaten Gen.G in any match this year until their recent showdown in the Worlds 2024 Semifinals, adding further weight to their rivalry.

As both players play the midlane position, it's inevitable to compare Chovy and Faker. Both are regarded as the best midlaners in South Korea, having represented the country together at the 2022 Asian Games, where they brought home the gold medal. LoL Esports even embraced this rivalry in their Worlds 2024 T1 vs. GEN teaser, titled The Believer and the God.

“I watched the teaser video, and it was so well made. I think fans will love it, too,” Faker shared with Sports Seoul following T1’s victory against Gen.G. He also acknowledged Chovy’s skills, calling him "an incredibly talented player," and expressing his enjoyment of their challenging matchup.

In the teaser, Chovy says, “Faker, I will usher in a new future,” with Faker responding, “Chovy, if the future is yours, prove it.” While Chovy has yet to claim his Worlds title this year, Faker believes his rival has the talent to achieve it someday.

“We won (against Gen.G), but personally, I didn't perform at my best. I think Chovy played very well. Given how talented he is, I’m confident he will win Worlds someday."

He continued, "However, it felt like this was our turn to advance, which is why we were able to win. Regardless of the result, I'm happy that we had such an enjoyable game."

T1 is now on the path to defend their title and claim a record fifth World Championship, facing BLG in the Worlds 2024 Finals on November 2. The results may also impact the team’s roster next year, as contracts for four T1 players are set to expire just days after Worlds.
