The Game Awards 2025 honored Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon as Best Esports Athlete for his performance in competitive League of Legends.
The Game Awards 2025 event has begun, and it wasted no time announcing winners across this year's categories. The recipient of Best Esports Athlete was none other than Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon!

The Game Awards 2025 crowns Chovy as Best Esports Athlete
On Dec. 11, The Game Awards 2025 honored Chovy, a Korean League of Legends (LoL) player for Gen.G Esports. Chovy is the team's mid-laner and recently competed in LoL World Championship 2025 (LoL Worlds 2025).
Although Chovy ultimately placed fourth at LoL Worlds 2025 with Gen.G Esports, the performance was impressive. Prior to that event, Gen.G Esports players competed in the LoL Champions Korea (LCK) circuit, where they secured the top spot needed to qualify for LoL Worlds 2025 in the first place. During that LCK season, Chovy earned three individual awards as well.

Under the Gen.G Esports banner, Chovy also claimed victories in this year's Esports World Cup (EWC) and the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) tournaments.
Did you know that in 2024, Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok of T1 called Chovy an incredibly talented player who he believed would one day win LoL Worlds? Chovy's Best Esports Athlete win at The Game Awards 2025 might just be another step toward that destiny.

The other Best Esports Athlete nominees were VALORANT players Brock "brawk" Somerhalder and Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto, Street Fighter 6 (SF6) players Kakeru Watanabe and Saul Leonardo "MenaRD" Mena II, plus Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) player Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut. This meant only Chovy represented the only LoL esports player in the category.
