The Pacific region has struggled in the LoL Worlds 2025, but CFO Driver believes the team is stronger and more confident than ever.
Only one team could come out on top, and Hanwha Life proved superior, defeating CFO in a hard-fought battle. The Korean team secured its ticket to the playoffs, but CFO still has hope, holding onto a chance to qualify for the League of Legends (LoL) Worlds 2025 tournament.
In an interview with esports.gg, Shen "Driver" Tsung-Hua reflected on the team’s 2–0 defeat against Hanwha Life, his growth as a player, being part of a six-man roster alongside another top laner, and his goals for the tournament, including his desire to bring a trophy to the Pacific region.
A world sensation
CTBC Flying Oyster, commonly known as CFO, is the first seed from the Pacific region at the LoL Worlds 2025 tournament. From the start of the year, they’ve impressed fans with a talented roster, dominating their regional league and showing strong potential on the international stage. They finished 3–4 in the First Stand and 5–6 at MSI 2025, demonstrating both skill and growth throughout the year.
Even with just one more chance at the biggest event of the year, the Pacific team has already made a statement by defeating teams like T1 and FNC, while falling to AL and HLE. Now, they face their final opportunity to qualify for the playoffs and prove the strength of their region on the world stage.
The team is known for their chaotic yet distinctive team fights, often celebrating their victories with a bit of a victory dance. Driver's charisma and confidence to dance on stage have been highly praised online.
Losing to Hanwha Life
Sofia: How are you feeling today?
CFO Driver: We definitely have some regrets about our performance on stage. In both games, we had opportunities to win but couldn’t quite close them out. It’s a bit disappointing, but overall, it’s okay. We still have another chance ahead of us, and we’re focused on qualifying for the finals.
Sofia: What do you think was missing in today’s match to beat Hanwha Life?
CFO Driver: As a team, our communication wasn’t as strong as it needed to be. We often lost track of the opponents’ positions before team fights, which gave them the advantage to set up and control the game. We couldn’t properly respond or capitalize during those moments. Even though we had some good plays and secured objectives, our team fighting and coordination just weren’t enough to turn it into a win.
Sofia: Given the LoL Worlds 2025 meta, would you say it’s favorable for CFO?
CFO Driver: I think this is a pretty decent meta for us. It allows strong team fights, and we can effectively trade neutral objectives to control resources. Our aggressive bot lane is performing really well, and our jungle–mid synergy is strong. Our frontliners can hold their ground effectively, too. Overall, the meta suits our style, but we still need to improve our execution in team fights.
Honoring the Pacific region
Sofia: Now that you’re one of the Pacific teams alongside Team Secret Whales, with PSG eliminated, what does it mean for you to represent the region at Worlds?
CFO Driver: I think it’s very important for our region. We’re still standing on the international stage, and we need to give 100% effort to break through and aim for the quarterfinals. Failing to do so would be disappointing not just for us, but for the entire region. We want to make sure we represent the Pacific region strongly in every match.
Sofia: You’ve faced tough teams in your LoL Worlds run. Do you think CFO is still seen as an underdog, even though you’ve performed so well all year?
CFO Driver: I don’t see us as the underdog anymore. After so many games, I think people recognize our strength and the potential we’ve shown throughout the season.
Sofia: How is your dynamic with Rest as the two top laners for CFO?
CFO Driver: Ultimately, both of us share the same goal: to help the team perform at its best and secure victories. Sometimes, we can’t handle every champion perfectly, so we rotate to make sure the team stays strong on stage. We communicate a lot with each other, especially when it comes to champions that are particularly strong in the meta. For example, if I’m performing better on a certain champion, I’ll help him improve on it, and vice versa. It’s all about supporting each other and the team.
CFO Driver on his last chance at the LoL Worlds 2025
Sofia: You've grown a lot since your debut. What’s something you’re most proud of?
CFO Driver: Every pro player starts with the dream of becoming a champion and believing in their potential. But along the way, results and challenges can affect your confidence. This year, with the team, we’ve achieved strong results and victories on stage. That experience has really helped me build confidence and feel that I can continue to improve and perform even better.
Sofia: You still have a chance to qualify for the Playoffs stage. Who would you like to face for a chance of qualifying?
CFO Driver: Coming from a 2-2 pool, I don’t think this opponent is as strong as some of the teams we’ve faced previously. I believe if we focus on giving our best, maintaining momentum, and staying disciplined, we can capitalize on our opportunities no matter who we face. The key is to stay consistent and showcase strong momentum, rather than worrying too much about the opponent.
