Highguard shuts down on March 12, just 45 days after its release. The shooter will receive one final update following its official closure.
The team behind Highguard, Wildlight Entertainment, officially announced that they will be sunsetting the title. The free-to-play hero shooter launched on Jan. 26. Ahead of its shutdown, the team plans to roll out a final update featuring a new Warden, a new weapon, an account-level progression system, and skill trees.
Highguard shuts down
Wildlight Entertainment has confirmed that the multiplayer is shutting down on March 12 in an article on X. The team thanked fans for their support throughout the journey and announced that a final update will be released in the coming days. Here is the official statement.
Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard’s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.
The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We’ll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we’re targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.
From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.

Team layoffs and player count decline
The first trailer for Highguard debuted during The Game Awards 2025. Following its release, the game experienced a decline in player numbers and massive disapproval online. Despite updates that generated some excitement, like the new 5v5 mode, they weren’t enough to reverse the game’s downward trajectory. In February, about half of the Wildlight Entertainment team working on Highguard was laid off, just 16 days after the release.
The game reached its all-time peak around its launch period two months ago, drawing more than 97,000 peak players. Now, it struggles to surpass even 500 at its peak. Even with a small team dedicated to supporting the game, its fate couldn’t be reversed, and it is now set to shut down. The game had a roadmap of updates until the end of the year.

Wildlight Entertainment has announced one final patch for the game before its shutdown. Fans of Highguard now have less than two weeks to experience the game with this new content. Although the game struggled to attract players from the beginning, few expected it to end so soon. There is no more information about upcoming games from the studio.
