The Switch 2 is reportedly going to face price increases, making the console even more expensive after Trump’s tariffs.

The hike of video game console prices continues to reach new heights, as many consoles, including the PS5, have announced price hikes. With the great 21st century RAM shortage constantly getting worse, gaming hardware has become more difficult to find as each day passes. And now, it seems as if the Switch 2 will be following this trend.

Switch 2 prices to increase

On a recent episode of the Kit & Krysta podcast, a former ex-Nintendo Sales Lead held a discussion involving rising RAM prices and the production of the Switch 2. With hardware getting more and more expensive to produce, it would seem as if Nintendo is struggling to mitigate these costs.

“Even if they are able to make concessions in some areas, hardware prices are going to go up,” said the ex-Nintendo Sales Lead. “They may be able to put off raising hardware prices for a moment, but it’s inevitable that they are going to go up for the first time.”

This has created a discourse amongst many fans, especially those who had yet to pull the plug on purchasing a Switch 2 in hopes of a price drop. These rising concerns regarding the company’s hardware has created a dramatic loss in shareholder value, as Nintendo stock has plummeted over the last month or so.

However, with many big games set to release in the future, including Pokémon Winds and Waves and the unannounced Ocarina of Time remake, many are anticipating a big comeback by Nintendo during the second half of 2026.

Current Switch 2 prices

The Switch 2 is already quite expensive in the US, due to Trump’s tariffs. Those purchasing the console by itself have to pay $450 USD, while those punching a bundle, which includes a game, can get the Switch 2 for $500 USD.

This is already a massive increase from the original Switch’s starting price, which begun at $300 and never saw an increase.

It would seem that this year is a dark age for gamers, especially for those looking to upgrade their hardware. Whether you are a PC, Switch or PS5/Xbox gamer, things are only going to get worse before they get better.
