PlayStation State of Play September 2025 Predictions and Rumors

State of Play streams are always a place for theory crafting and wishful thinking. Below are some theories as well as our own predictions for what we'll see showcased on Sept. 24.

Resident Evil 9 Trailer

The next trailer for Resident Evil 9: Requiem is a fairly safe bet for the Sony State of Play on Sept. 24. Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer claimed on Sept 19, that the new trailer would reveal Resident Evil's Leon Kennedy as a main protagonist of the upcoming title.

This could be part of a deliberate marketing strategy by Capcom to generate hype for the game, especially given fans were disappointed the iconic male lead did not appear in either of the Resident Evil 9 trailers so far.

Resident Evil 9: Requiem is due for release on Feb. 26 across console and PC.

New Stellar Blade DLC Tease

Another theory is that a new Stellar Blade DLC announcement could be very probable at the Sony State of Play on Sept. 24. The Stellar Blade social media account teased a spooky looking screenshot on Sept 20. with the words "in one week".

Based on the aesthetic of the screenshot and the fact Shift Up just announced a NIKKE collab with Resident Evil for their mobile game Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, our guess is a Resident Evil x Stellar Blade DLC.

There is also historical precedence. Exactly one year ago at the State of Play in September 2024, Shift Up showcased their upcoming NieR: Automata x Stellar Blade DLC.

For context, Sony is not only Stellar Blade's publisher, but it was also actively involved in funding Stellar Blade's development, after the battle demo caught the attention of former Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida.

Final Fantasy Reborn or FF9 Remake

Outside of Resident Evil content, there is a faint glimmer of hope that Sony might also drop the first trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Reborn, the third and final chapter of the FF7 Remake.

If not, fellow Final Fantasy fans would be equally delighted to get the Final Fantasy 9 remake we've been begging for. This is not based on any leaks or tease, purely because we want nice things.

Insomnia Games' Wolverine

Another theory circling on YouTube is that we might finally see footage of Insomniac Games' upcoming title Wolverine, which was announced FOUR years ago. Insomniac Games did say in April they are "actively working on it".

Insomniac Games' Wolverine will take place in Earth-1048, the same universe as Insomniac's Spider-Man games. It will be a standalone story and expected to be a PS5 exclusive.

Thus far, outside of an unfortunate series of leaks in 2023, Insomniac Games have shared very few details about the Wolverine project. Could it finally be the time?!

We'll keep you posted on what is announced at Sony State of Play September 2025, but for the full experience make sure you tune in live!
